China makes almost everything you own. So I flew to Guangzhou , to find out what China actually sells now, and whether it's better than what we're buying at home.

I went shopping on Beijing Road for Chinese sportswear brands like Li-Ning, Anta and 361 Degrees, compared them directly against the Nike and Adidas stores on the same street, and then headed to Dongshankou, the district where the Chinese fashion brands blowing up on TikTok and Taobao actually have physical stores.

Nike's China revenue has hit an eight-year low, down around 30% from its 2021 peak, while the Chinese sportswear market grew 51% in the same period. Anta is now the world's third-largest sportswear company and owns stakes in Puma, Arc'teryx, Salomon and Wilson. Li-Ning signed Steph Curry. And back home, apps like Taobao and DHgate have been topping the US App Store as Western shoppers buy Chinese brands direct.

What you see is just a drop in the ocean. China is the world's factory, possessing a complete industrial chain capable of producing almost anything, from high-tech to basic products. Every province has its own industrial clusters that can easily outperform a small country.

headed to Guangzhou in September. it'll be my 3rd trip in 1 year! i also plan to go back November, March 2027, and Summer 2027. I am from California, going there for production work!

I’ve stopped buying western brands since moving to Shanghai in 2015. I work in product development and know firsthand what’s going on behind the scenes. Once your brand is just a marketing exercise without any control over the manufacturing you are cooked.

China has both high-quality products and low-quality products. Many products are produced according to the requirements of buyers in other countries. He only gives this bottom price. Besides, if they are all big brands, other countries with low income can't afford to consume them at all.

Bro imagine not fearing being robbed and shopping in this area cool stores everywhere and just good vibes all around. Last time I saw this type of district it was Tokyo Japan. Very few countries have entire commercial blocks dedicated to unique fashion store and again the last time I saw this type of thing it was Tokyo. Good thing alot of Aisan countries taking this approach and making shopping enjoyable.

best thing about china are the freebies bruh. they get you with those, and the china exclusives are worth purchasing. china adidas has he best sportswear branding from all my travels. they have the best stores and inventory

An underrated aspect of Chinese brands is they are made for the Asian body. On average shorter and thinner. So many brands like Nike be making clothes for nba 6ft+ nba players but that’s just not the majority of people

My running shoe rotation is strictly all Chinese. Lining, Xtep, Dynafish, Qiodan. All clothes from China as well.

Not sure if you missed it or not, but in almost every shoe shop, the price displayed is not right. They all have 30-70% off the advertised price "sales", usually if you buy multiple products. They often will let you get the max discount by combining purchases with other shoppers if you don't care about getting a receipt.
