The reason regular people sounded so boring back then is because they weren’t raised by the likes of Ray William Johnson and Mr Beast. People used to be calm and being performative about everything wasn’t normal

As a German, I eagerly await the moment when the revolutionary fiber optic cable everyones talking about finally arrives to replace our copper cable lines. They must've been sent to us by train and are therefore forever lost in the Deutsche Bahn Netz.

Barely recognized Bezos. He looks so normal there

"Why is everything washed out on 80s TV" well when you're filming over a 20 year old episode of dr who for the 500th time there's gonna be some degredation

The people in the 90s weren't boring, they just didn't need to scream at the camera and jump cut every 0.2 seconds

The trick that McDonald's have played on us is that they've moved the queue. Before you would queue up for 10/15 minutes to order, then when you got to the till they took your money and then immediately fetched your food in under a minute. Now you walk in and in order straight away, but wait 10/15 minutes for the food. Which IS a neat trick because once you've placed the order and paid, you're kind of trapped, whereas before if you felt the queue was moving too slowly you could just walk out with no consequences.

I find it interesting in how the presenters become less formal and more "relaxed" the closer we get to the present day.

BBC Archive is one of the single greatest things the TV License has gone towards funding.

the people talking are like the people in the spanish/french listening exams

People didn’t realise that text messaging would take off because it was so much cheaper than calling. In the US, it didn’t take off in the same way for a lot longer because local phone calls on landlines were free.

I'd take 1980s house prices and 1980s food. You could feed a family of 4 for a week on a single mars bar back then.

Are we just gonna ignore the fact he paid £1.52 for a Big Mac, fries and milkshake. How we’ve fallen

I remember when SMS went live to the public in my region and thought "What a ridiculous idea! What kind of clown would do that instead of just phoning the person up?" Now about 1% of my communication is via actual phone call. I hate talking on the phone for decades now 😅

You would have to go to the library and find the information you wanted and you would probably remember it.
Nowadays you get the information you wanted and then you're watching videos of fat drunk blokes falling down and forget that there was something you wanted to do that day.

The British food thing is mainly a myth, only being true during WW2 era rationing.
American servicemen came over from a country that hadn't seen food shortages since the Great Depression, arriving in a country, where for most people, luxuries were out*, and the population were existing on a very basic diet, designed to just about meet nutritional requirements, and no more.
Parks, lawns and even village greens were dug up to grow vegetables.
Meat was a rarity, and locally produced 'speciality' cheeses vanished, in favour of homogeneous Cheddar.
Food waste was unthinkable, and obesity barely existed.
GIs, based in the UK prior to to D-day, and fortunate enough to return home, helped spread the myth that Britain food was terrible because they were here while it was...with good reason.
Historically, British food was no worse than most other European countries.
*Luxury items did exist on the black market, but not enough to satisfy tens of thousands of GIs, even if if they had the right contacts.

Thanks for this, I am very old, so I remember all this happening. It's cool to see a younger person looking back. More please.

A British fast food restaurant named "Trumps" operated in locations like Tottenham Court Road and another site that was previously a Key Markets supermarket, opening around 1980/1981. It was eventually bought by Burger King, and the chain no longer exists.

This is why you can't find much info on the company
