If the arched home was not there for the neighbors to access the question in my mind is: why would anyone try to heat the whole house instead of creating a small space within the walls of the building? I would have used barbed wires in the shape necessary for my family and hung my extra blankets onto the wire layout and created dead air space between my outer walls and ceiling and survived without imposing upon my neighbors.

Key Winter Adaptations:

Shape & Poles: The strong, flexible lodgepole pine frame and conical shape allowed snow to slide off easily and deflected harsh winds, with the narrowest side facing the prevailing wind.

Insulation Layers:

Double Cover: An outer hide layer and an inner hide/canvas layer created an insulating air pocket, like a modern winter jacket.

Inner Liner (Ozan): A separate liner hung inside trapped warm air around the living space.

Insulation Stuffing: Grass, fur, or pine needles were stuffed into the gap between the liner and the outer cover.

Fire & Ventilation:
