The United States is exercising extraordinary influence over Venezuela’s oil industry, billions of dollars in Venezuelan oil revenues have come under US-controlled arrangements, and serious questions are being raised about transparency, sovereignty and constitutionality.

Our government placed considerable faith in closer relations with the Trump administration, with Dragon Gas and regional energy cooperation expected to benefit Trinidad. In this episode, I examine what has actually materialised, the reported US$13 billion in Venezuelan oil revenues, the Pentagon-linked 35% stake, Venezuela’s constitutional Articles 12 and 150, protests in Venezuela, and the enormous imbalance of power between Washington and Caracas.
Most importantly: while America advances its strategic interests in Venezuela, what has Trinidad and Tobago actually gained?
This is not about supporting Maduro, Delcy Rodríguez or Donald Trump. It is about sovereignty, constitutional government, transparency and Trinidad and Tobago protecting its own national interests.

for us to be surprised by the USA in particular with Donald Trump it is the same situation as was when Trinidad and Tobago hosted the Miss Universe Pageant under the same Donald Trump and our Prime Minister who was just a Minister then support with nothing in return as was promised.
