The 1968 Mercury Monterey convertible has officially entered the chat, and she is NOT shy.

In Part 1 of this beautiful disaster, we dive headfirst into Project Monterey. We pull the wheels and tires, give her a good once-over to see what 58 years of life did to her, yank the backseat (hello, secrets), drop the convertible top for the first time in who knows how long, and then tackle the main event: the leaking, stinking, truly offensive gas tank.

Spoiler: It makes a MESS. All over the floor. You're welcome.

On today's tool lineup:

DeWalt tools doing the heavy lifting, one cheap O'Reilly's flashlight that is fighting for its life, and a heroic U-Haul blanket that was never meant to see this kind of action.

What we found:

A few surprises, a few "oh no's," and roughly 10,000 squirrel nuts. This car was apparently a 5-star Airbnb for squirrels all winter. They did NOT pay rent.

If you love rust, bad decisions, convertible dreams, and watching us figure it out as we go - you are in the right place. This big boat has stories to tell, and we're just getting started.

Hit subscribe so you don't miss Part 2, where we hopefully don't light ourselves on fire.

Got a name for her? Drop it in the comments. She smells like old gas and acorns right now, so choose wisely.
