We are driving our 50-year-old VW Kombi across the Desierto del Diablo, the final stretch of our expedition through the Puna de Atacama, one of the highest and most remote deserts on Earth.

This is Part 3, the finale of our Puna expedition in Argentina. Fuel is running low, the 4x4 tracks are brutal, and everyone told us these trails were impossible for a vintage van. From a fuel search in the desert to the golden plateau, the ghost town of Tolar Grande and the Ojos del Mar, we push Ruby, our 1976 VW Kombi, to her absolute limits to finish what we started.

This is real overlanding in South America, with no backup and no shortcuts.
