Welcome to the Holly Stocking Knitting Guide! In this video I'll walk you through an overview of the project and the key techniques that bring this stocking together: ribbing, cables, forethought heel, kitchener stitch, icord, and more. This video is a companion to the written pattern, which includes the full cable chart and instructions.
The Holly Stocking came from wanting a cozy, classic stocking. It's chunky enough to knit up quickly before the holidays yet timeless enough to be hung up year after year.
The stocking is worked in the round from the cuff down using the magic loop method. A folded 2x2 ribbed cuff leads into a diamond and cable pattern that runs the full length of the stocking. Waste yarn marks a forethought heel, so you can knit straight through to the toe and add the heel at the end. The pattern includes narrow and wide options for both the heel and the toe. Finally, an i-cord loop is sewn on for hanging.
