These are the 8 most powerful aircraft carriers in history, ranked from least to most powerful. From HMS Hermes, the aircraft carrier that Great Britain intended to scrap but ended up leading the Falklands War, to USS Gerald R. Ford, the most advanced and expensive warship ever built: $13 billion and a planned service life until 2060.
Along the way: the Japanese giant that sank 10 days after entering service, the first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier with 8 reactors on board, the fleet that attacked Pearl Harbor and invented modern naval warfare, and the class of supercarriers that has dominated the oceans for 50 years.
