This is the kind of reviews you can trust, you are a Canon shooter but you are honest to your audience by saying the good things about the other manufacturers, something that a lot of camera reviewers hide just to be nice with some companies and continue getting free equipment.

To me, the only travel camera in this list was the S9. Traditional DSLR bodies just aren’t fun for travel. I think this video shows this glaring hole in the Canon lineup, and how the Nikon Zf is really too big/clunky to really be considered for travel as well. Even though o kites here, I think these choices also highlight how impressive the Sony a7C lineup is for travel.

Travel camera: Very light, with IBIS, with an EVF, I prefer the Sony A7C / A7Cii. Typically I carry it together wit a 24/2.8, 40/2.5, 75/1.8. Weight all together: about 1kg.

My pick would be the Nikon Z5ii. Other than open gate, everything else speaks to me. When it came time for me to upgrade from my old DSLR, i test drove the r6MK2, Z6iii and S5ii. The best one for me was still the Nikon and now i own the Z8 and Zf. I prefer the colors of the Nikon. Canon skin tones are a tiny bit better than Nikon but i can fix that in post. Either way, it all depends what lens ecosystem people want to lock themselves in. Great revview.

I had and loved my Lumix M43 cameras for years, then then kept getting bigger, I had the G9 and was looking at the G9M2 when I decided to look at FF. Panasonic was obviously investing a lot of resources in FF. I wanted to like Sony but I really, really liked Canon. I could not decide between the R5 and R6II, so I bought the R8, loved the size and price, was concerned about the lack of IBIS. I can’t tell you how much I love my R8. For the past 2 years, I’ve talked 1000’s of photos, all over the world (4 continents ), and it is the perfect travel camera for me. James, thank you for your videos. I learn how to be a better photographer with each video!

4:10 Nikon has this too, the picture control button on the top. You can download premade profiles from Nikon’s creative cloud and transfer them to the camera wirelessly or make your own and put it on an SD card to load onto the camera.

I just want to say how much I appreciate your videos and the amount of energy and thought you put in to them. You always present such great ideas, have excellent b roll, and your edits are fantastic. Thanks so much!

Nice first impressions.

@brianmiller921 2 months ago

I am surprised you didn't put the Sony A7C in there

No 4K/50P without crop disqualifies Lumix and Nikon for me personally.

I love my Nikon d3400

I love the S9. It is practically pure artistic inspiration. First, you can get it in a dozen fun color ways. Secondly, you have real time LUTs which make the JPEGs feel more personal and gets me excited to shoot. Thirdly, it has an XPAN crop built in which has become one of my favorite ways to shoot. Fourthly, you can customize pretty much everything except 2 buttons to make it your own. And finally, the video is really good making it a great way to capture family memories. Used it over the 4th and got usable video of my family setting off fireworks in low light. If you get one I highly recommend the sg image 35mm f 2.2. Its a wonderful compact and versatile prime if you to travel light.

Really, the only thing I kind of miss which I did not expect was the EVF. I find myself wanting to shoot with the screen closed which I can not really do with this.

I did end up loving the camera so much that I ended up also picking up the S1Rii. Both cameras pair beautifully together. I love using my S1Rii with the samyang 35-150mm f 2-2.8 and the S9 with the viltrox 16mm f 1.8. With that combo I can shoot pretty much anything except wild life and sports.

Excellent. Thank you.

the newest lumix cameras, s1II and s1rII, completely eliminated corner wobble any without any crop. "Cropless e-stab" is a miracle.

once again another great video

@mashudali8482 2 months ago

Lumix S9 is the one, it has everythng even without the EVF -

Another great extremely detailed review James! But I'm happy with my canon and I won't be switching.

Great video and great comparison, James! I parted ways with my S9 in favor of my S5ii, but I do miss it every now and again.

Very helpful video, im considering the R8 as my next camera for a hybrid camera and for travel. Would love a video on best lenses paired with this camera
