We exploring Independence Hall, Congress Hall, the Liberty Bell, the graves of some well known (and some not so well known) founders and The Museum of the American Revolution. One interesting point about Independence Hall is that July 4, 1776 was not the day everyone signed the Declaration. The decisive vote for independence actually happened on July 2, when Congress approved the resolution declaring the colonies free and independent states. July 4 was when Congress approved the final wording of the Declaration and ordered it printed. The first printed copies, the Dunlap Broadsides, went out shortly after, while most delegates signed the formal parchment copy later, on August 2. So July 2 was the actual vote for independence, July 4 was the adoption and printing date, and August 2 was the main signing date.

You have to visit South Jersey, there are a lot of Revolutionary War era sights and buildings you can see, like the Benjamin Cooper House (currently under renovations) in Cooper Point, Camden, Red Bank battlefield in National Park (yes, it’s the name of the town it’s in), the Indian King Tavern where the New Jersey legislature declared independence from Britain, multiple signs along West Kings Highway and Market Street, which tells you about the Marquis de Lafayette’s first independent battle in the Battle of Gloucester (1777), Prospectors Park in Gloucester City which has a plaque that tells you about the sight where Betsy Ross was married, the Gabriel Davies Tavern in Glendora, the Clements Bridge and Ashbrooks Burial Ground also in Glendora, and more.

Great watch. "Happy 250 America"
For the 1976 Bicentennial a friend and I did a three month road trip seeing as much of America as we could. Back then the Liberty Bell was in Independence Hall on the first floor close to the front door AND it was OK to touch it.

Sweet tea was actually invented in New England. What they threw into the harbor at the Boston Tea Party was not the black tea that we drink now, but green tea. Green tea is usually quite bitter and the colonists added large amounts of sugar to it. So it was not just the tax on tea that they were so upset about, but also the tax on the sugar to make it palatable. I learned this a few years ago on a channel that combines history and cooking.

250 years later they want all the doors closed and no cameras inside so you dont see the corruption going on. We need to go back to "open court" with no doors.

I was chaperone on my daughters 5th grade field trip 2 years ago. The kids loved the museum of American Revolution and the National constitution center. It’s so different than just reading it in a book.

We are also proud to say we have an ancestor who fought in the American Revolution under General Washington
