They all ate ofc as always, but Mingi and Seongwha doing the troublemaker cover had me floored. Also they're a rare pairing, like all of Ateez genuinely love each other and have great chemistry, but some duos we don't see as often and this is one of them. Mother and Princess killed that sh*t and they locked tf in too. This choreography is usually done by a MxF couple, but many K-pop groups have covered it. This was one of the best imo, they did not shy away. I'm actually glad those two did it and not a duo I expected. It was fun being surprised and my jaw was on the floor. I also enjoy bl/yaoi when it's sweet and romantic. This was a little steamy, but I enjoyed this performance a lot lol. This is from an annual fan meeting to celebrate Ateez anniversary. They put on special performances and do this for like two days. It's like a special concert for fans in S.Korea. I'm jealous af being an international Atiny.
Mingi is dancing the female part, HyunA had in the Troublemaker performance. Seonghwa the male. It was Seonghwa who suggested, that Mingi do the female part, bc he can do gg dances well. We all know, that Seonghwa kills gg dances, but he wanted the impact, it would make, if the roles were switched. He really is an amazing artist and his vision never fails him. He promised Mingi, that he would take full responsibility of that performance. And Mingi just followed his direction. It’s an amazing performance. Seonghwa does not play around, when it comes to performance. Seonghwa had all female dancers in his Skin mv, and they often use female dancers, but even more after the Skin mv. Look up the Mamacita performance from last weekends TMA performance.
I think I’ve watched this performance like 106 times now and I’m actually not joking. Also gay marriage is not legal in Korea. Hopefully soon it will be. Queer media is getting more and more popular in Korea among the younger people, but it’s still a very homophobic country. Mingi and Seonghwa are definitely NOT homophobic though. Seonghwa’s pretty obviously queer, and Mingi watches gay dramas lmao
Didn't check but I'm pretty sure S.Korea is still really conservative because of all the elderly ppl, but many young ppl are becoming way more liberal. Maybe one day. It is really confusing to me too. How do so many Koreans love fan service and shipping pretty same sex idols, but also be in such a homophobic country? I noticed a lot more bls coming from there so I do think that even if it probably is still kinda taboo there, many young ppl may be changing things there. Like everywhere else is, it just takes time to make progress.
I love how you broke down the choreography and discussed it a little in some places, (as a fellow previous photography student, it’s definitely fun for me to see and hear) I mostly see people just baffled by what they’re seeing rather than actually appreciating the performance, when what intrigues me the most is all those little decisions that leads to the finalized result. (the performance itself.) That being said, loved hearing what you had to say! Seongwha and Mingi did fantastic here
I have fun facts: this was a 3(technically 6)day fan meeting 3 days held in Korea and another 3 days held in Japan, troublemaker was actually a cover of a song by a duo the same name (I haven't seen any live performances from the original duo so I don't know if this is the original choreo 🌚), and I believe woosan were infact wearing velvet which is why they look so shiny
ive never watched any of ur reactions / videos before but this one was so good i couldnt help but subscribe haha. loved the hell out of this and u were so so funny
long story short is that much of Korea likes the fantasy that queer shipping and fanservice provides but don't approve of the reality, it's like how straight people fetishize queer relationships but often don't actually support them. As long as it's not viewed to be "genuine" idols can basically do anything in the name of fanservice.
This is not related to anything in the video but lord if it doesn't remind me of when Nam Yoonsu(A-list Korean Actor) announced he would be the lead actor of the show "Love in the Big City" which is about the reality of being a gay man in SK and people literally protested trying to prevent the show from being released meanwhile dozens of other BL's released with no issue because they weren't tackling the reality of queerness the same way
