It's funny how French is basically just Parisian and Italian is just Tuscan, but with German you need one A4 page to explain wtf the artificial dialect called "Standard German" even is.

English: But of course we're a Germanic language.
Also English: But 60% of our language is based on Latin or Old French.

Galician and Portuguese diverged from Latin together as a single language called Galician-Portuguese. In both Galicia and Portugal, we still study the same medieval literature in high school, because it was originally written in the same language.

The Roman state did not ban other languages. Gallic survived in pockets until the 6th century. It's just that everybody had to learn latin and gradually, people stopped using their native language with their kids.

Once i was watching a Pokémon movie in italian. At the time i only knew spanish. By the end of the movie, i could understand it.
Something similar happened when i traveled to brazil

Ok, but protoslavic is definitely younger than unified latin. Which isnt really suprising considering that they on average are also more similar to eachother than latin family.

7:34 The Visigoths had a huge influence on our names for some reason 😅 my last name, Gutierrez, comes from the Germanic name Walter, it was Hispanicized into "Gualter" which became Gualtierrez, then Gutierrez. There's tons of Hispanic surnames that come from this era 😅

cant talk for all of the languages of italy at the time, but latin got its script by adapting the etruscan script, which was itself adapted from the greek script

As a fluent/near fluent speaker of several languages from Slavic, Germanic and Romance languages it’s true that Romance and especially some Slavic languages are way more similar than Germanic languages, for example I speak English, Luxembourgish and German but I can barely understand a few words from Scandinavian languages. I speak French and Spanish and for me, I understand nearly everything in Portuguese or Italian when it’s written down. Speaking Polish and some Russian makes me basically understand almost everything for northern Slavic languages (south slavic languages I understand less but still much better than the Scandinavian languages)
