Hey Baz, Liking the very informative videos. I do hope you read this message and respond. I have the XC60 D5 Inscription, which had the power pulse pipes replaced as the cabin was getting horrid exhaust fumes pumped in. After research, it seems the OE pipe fails due to poor manufacturing design, and the new pipe version has a much stronger structure. I had the pipes replaced by my main Volvo dealer along with a minor service: oil & filter. £1485 was paid for the job, and when i collected the car it made a whistling noise on take-off at 1k to 2k rpm. I thought that's a new noise it's never made before, so I lived with it for a couple of months. It started to annoy me, so I contacted them to have the car booked back in for testing and fault-finding. They then sent me the video of the car on the ramp, saying yes, there is an air leak noise, but they need more time to find £575 so far. Then 2 days later i call for an update to be told one of the gaskets had failed on one of the new pipes that had been fitted. After discussion, the £575 bill was cancelled and the car fixed. Collected car after hours using there drop off and collect system only to find the same whistling noise happening. I now have the same battle with Volvo again on 23rd September for the same issue. Have you heard of this Power pulse pipe issue before on this model ??
I bought an immaculate Rover 75 CDTi in Yorkshire drove it home to Belfast. I fought the steering all the way home. Took it to a garage and got four wheel alignment done, guy gave me my keys back, and asked had there been any work done to the car i said yes, he said never seen one as bad steering was 15mm out.
Best volvos in the world, the ones that had B230E. Just as bullitproof engines as B18 or B20. Worst one imho was the B21 when they changed from iron block/head to iron block with alu heads. Big misstake there. Anyway, it really was easier in early days. Things lasted longer, and if something broke, you could rebuild the engine quite easy and fast outside your front door at home. These were the days. Regards from Sweden.
After watching mat Armstrong and the likes for a while it’s great fun to watch the real mechanics grinding it out in real life. Great videos need to work my way through your older ones.
Just bought a new XC40 B4. It might be manufactured to a lesser standard than older cars but when compared to other modern cars, it's still pretty damn good.
Jesus you're very thorough Baz, pleasure to watch. I'm in Ireland and I can just about manage to get the BMW alignment done by decent guys but I had to buy that steering wheel level myself.
Great video again Baz. I like to use Hylomar for holding gaskets, probably because I have a lot of it from an auction purchase. 😅 Trouble is nowadays they don't want stuff to last, how else are these companies going to make money. It's all to do with us spending cash.
Man, What a professional work. I'm learning a lot from you. I really enjoy watching your videos. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. Greetings from a Moroccan DIYer 🇲🇦🎩
I have a little tip with the water pump gasket. The two dowel pins on the block hold it in place really well, I just put some CV joint grease on the block side of the gasket which helps it stay in place even better and also keeps it from getting stuck on the block.
