Adam Bernard is an investigator with the Tipp City Police Department in Ohio., who investigated the Feb. 16, 2026, shooting death of Ashley Flynn.
Bernard testified in Flynn's husband's murder trial today in the Miami County Court of Common Pleas. Caleb Flynn, a former church pastor and "American Idol" contestant, called 911 about 2:30 a.m. and said an intruder shot his wife, but prosecutors allege he killed her and lied about an intruder.
Police have never found the gun that killed her.
Bernard responded to the home at approximately 3:45 a.m. and canvassed nine houses for surveillance footage and witness information.
He collected and photographed Ashley's iPhone as well as a hammer and other tools. He also assisted with removal of a forced-entry garage door and logged evidence through the department's reporting system.
Searches included the backyard, woods, rock piles, interior concealment areas, storm drains, attic insulation, and a grid search through the neighborhood. No evidentiary items or firearm were found in these searches.
He later obtained a search warrant for Microsoft GroupMe data using two email addresses and a phone number. Microsoft returned a data packet containing 107,655 lines, a password, and a certificate of authenticity.
In cross, Bernard acknowledged he spent roughly tens of hours searching for the firearm and called nearly two dozen South Carolina gun stores seeking a Form 4473 but never obtained information tying Caleb Flynn to a firearm purchase.
