The Bible's Darkest Lie No One Noticed...

WARD RADIO

Cardon Ellis is joined by Austin Falter and Jonah Barnes for a lively and insightful conversation focused on the "Johannine Comma"—a controversial passage in the New Testament (1 John 5:7) often cited as the strongest biblical support for the doctrine of the Trinity.

The discussion kicks off with some light-hearted banter about social media, before Jonah Barnes dives into a recent online debate where he used knowledge about biblical manuscripts to challenge a critic of Mormonism. He explains that many critics use 1 John 5:7 to argue that non-Trinitarian Christians like Latter-day Saints are "heretics," but few realize the complicated history behind this verse.

Wow. So interesting. I love how people incorrectly quote "don't add to this book" referring to the Book of Mormon, but deceptively inserted a verse to support the Trinity. Unbelievable.

I just Googled 1 John 5:7 and is mentions exactly what Jonah just explained. They describe it as a "Latin scribe notation". Once again Joseph and Jonah are correct again!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EXCELLENT EPISODE.
You stayed on topic and the interruptions were at a minimum.
This is the type of episode I will share.

I didn't know this about Erasmus, even though I'm also Dutch. He is mostly credited for his (christian) humanism here. Apparently the comma in the Brittish Greek Codex Montfortianus that Erasmus was handed, was added by translating it back from the Latin! Erasmus says this in the footnote that he adds to his 3rd edition where he - under pressure of being accused as arianist - does add the comma.

Fun fact: in his German bible translation Martin Luther used Erasmus 2nd edition and thus leaves the comma out. But at the end of the 16th century Lutheran theologians insert it back in!

When are we going to start a Mormon Anti Defamation Society (MADS). We should start serving cease and desist letters to organizations that lie about us.

I opened up my gospel library app and it has a note next to this verse that explains this very well.
