There is a story to this song: the "lo-fi" piece was a cellphone video (audio) recorded literally in a bathroom with background noise, cut off mid-phrase. Then Jacob made a "U-Harm" thing - harmonized around it and posted it on Instagram, back in around 2021. The thing blew up, tons of people requested a longer version, and Jacob delivered just in time for the Djesse Vol.4. Faked the missing phrase by Yebba, got John Legend and Tori Kelly to do their thing...Did the whole thing in 3 days, and there is a 2 hour Logic session breakdown he did live.

I am 73 years old and I just played this for my 95 year old father. .
He just sat and smiled and cried and cried and cried. . .  and then he smiled some more. .

hey man, just wanted to say your reactions are so authentic and that really warms my heart. It gets me very emotional. thank you for your reactions!

Love that Jacob takes a backseat in this song and just supports these three amazing singers!

“You should feel blessed that you enjoy music like this” is such a great sentiment to end with. I’ve shown Jacob’s music to various friends and family and a spare few hear it the way we do. I wish so badly that they all could. What a privilege.

Jacob is 6/6 in getting you choked up… just a testament to the power of his music. And don’t worry, I’ve cried many a time from his music so you’re not alone

Tori’s part never ceases to amaze me. Wow

His ability to connect with the soul of the song and the listener is amazing

Mate, I'm almost eighty one years old and for me,  as someone who's come through many many changes in music genres, I can honestly say, Jacob has given me immense joy with what he continues to conjure up. Forget you biases, just listen to what he's creating. Thanks for your reaction.

Some people will disregard this and say that these vocalists are doing too much.  And yet, if you put what they are singing on paper and give it to an orchestra, they would call it a masterpiece.

In my opinion this is a masterpiece either way, but these people just did that with their throats 😱🤯🤯. Jacob, Yebba, John, & Tori deserve ALL their flowers.

Jacob recorded Tori's parts rather last minute. I don't know if you've seen the tik tok of them recording it. It was basically Simon Says. Jacob vocalized some runs and she did them spot on adding her own flourishes here and there.

There are some behind the scenes with Jacob and Tori Kelly where he basically tells her what runs to sing so it will match up with what he has in his head for the main mix. Dude is whatever level is above a genius.

“Damnit I’m choked up again!” He really does get you every time. Jacob Collier is a divine composer. He’s tapping into something bigger than us all.

"He is channeling from somewhere else"... So true!
He is breaking boundaries in a way that can only be explained like that.
Artists like Jacob Collier come once in two or three lifetimes.
We just need to be glad to be around to enjoy the ride!

The first time i listened to this i said "oh wow, this is the best song ive ever heard".

I am now 60 years old and have been making music myself for a long time, but to this day I cannot read music. I started understanding harmony some time ago. Just by listening. Jacob came at the right time to bring this understanding forward. He often makes me cry because I'm overwhelmed. It is so enriching for my heart. That's why I like to hear you. Because you are going through the same thing, but also because you also help me move forward.

“Overwhelming” is the perfect way to describe his music. The ultimate experience that truly sets your musical mind on fire. I have en emotional experience EVERY time I listen to this song.

I've been studying and performing music for over 30 years and I can't recall a piece that has touched me more emotionally than this one. Great reaction vid man

Been hoping for this reaction above all others! Thank you

"Overwhelming" is exactly how it is. My tears keep flowing for that ending. I sometimes ask myself if it's possible to produce a piece of music that is perfect and transcendent. I think Jacob answered that question.
