Tait Reynolds Has Earned a Chance, NOT the 2027 Job | Clemson Tigers Podcast

Tait Reynolds is gaining valuable experience for Clemson in 2026, but should that automatically make him the Tigers’ starting quarterback in 2027?
Morgan Thomas breaks down Clemson’s quarterback timeline from Cade Klubnik to Christopher Vizzina to Reynolds, and why the current situation should be viewed as more than simply a successful development year for a freshman quarterback.
Clemson entered 2026 believing Vizzina was ready. When that plan failed, Reynolds was forced onto the field. Those live reps can absolutely help Reynolds develop, but they should not become the reason Clemson avoids legitimate quarterback competition next offseason.
We also look at why Clemson’s easier remaining schedule could complicate the evaluation. If the Tigers finish 8-4 or 9-3, will winning create the narrative that Reynolds has already earned the 2027 job?
The standard should be simple: Tait Reynolds has earned the right to compete for the Clemson starting quarterback job. He has not earned the right to be protected from competition.

Why are we going for OLs in the portal and not getting them? Why can't we block? Why do receivers block better than Oline? Why are we getting 300 passing yards and no TD? If we can't finish a drive, what makes you think we can finish a game? Matt Luke should be fired probably weeks ago. (I'm not saying Tajh Boyd is doing such a good job either, but can he?) O-line isn't the only problem, but it's the biggest problem and you can't do anything without one. We have amazing skilled players and I'll even go as far as to say Tait is included in that. Tait is outstanding and deserves better. He deserves a marine front that will help him to score. He deserves to not have to run more than running backs. He deserves 3 TDs for his 300 yards. QBs are too easy to blame and Clemson fans don't see it since they got to see Deshaun and Trevor...
This is on coaches and for the weakest OLine we've ever seen. Tait is doing better than I thought or what anyone should expect. I love this team and hope we are lucky enough to keep him. We need to protect him on the field though or he's wasted.
