the moral of the story is "never let youtubers form your opinion on games". think for yourself.

I do wonder what could be done with a Castlevania 3D collection. Like that alone would open up so much avenues for modding and even the official release could iron out so many issues like a contollable camera, though I doubt that Konami would ever put that much effort into something like this.

One of the things that I loved about Castlevania 64 was that Dracula WASN'T the ONLY VAMPIRE. Not only that but you could get bitten and contract vampirism from these vampire minions and you would have to cure it before you fell victim to the cures. I also loved the night and day system.

The little scenes inside the rooms with the vampires was a great touch. Vampires being stronger enemies was a nice touch. I really felt like a vampire hunter.

A near 2 hour video on the most underrated games in the series? Sign me up.

CV64 opening gave me the biggest goosebumps when I first heard it.

Been playing these two games for over 20 years. Somehow... not once did I notice they could've given Rosa a purifying.

I forgot to add in my previous comment, but there is actually a CV64 decomp in progress. The last time they checked, it was about 6% complete. They've been making impressive progress, considering the project is still relatively new.

"More gamer points than Arin Hanson" is maybe the lowest bar to jump. If you've ever managed to use a block button you're already miles ahead.

Man for your first long form video you killed it. It's always nice to see the 64 Castlevania games get some love.

Loved castlevania and legacy of darkness when I was a kid. They were my introduction to the series.

Didn't know they were hated til years later.

not even two minutes in, lemme tell you, Legacy of darkness knew what went wrong and well with the first game and went "we can fix that" and I love it for that

as your vid points out, reevaluations of these games are well-worn territory on youtube, but you deliver plenty of new insights, especially with your take about the best order to play each character in. nice job please do more castlevania!

32:00 just looking at this cutscene gives a good idea of the kind of ideas they wanted to pull off.  That looks amazing for a 5th gen game and  conceptually.

1:34:42 Gilles de Rais, a nice reference to the actual French count who actually sided in battle with Jeanne d'Arc against the English during the latter years of the Hundred Years war.  He was tried and convicted of being a predatory mass-murderer, especially of young boys of common caste (peasants, laborers) and was believed to have sacrificed them to Satan as part of a contract to obtain riches (maybe as many as 100, or even more).

Naturally, a lot of this has been questioned by historians in recent years, as that the only "evidence" comes from the  accusations made against the count during his trial for heresy & witchcraft (there may have never been any physical evidence to actually be brought to his trial).  Some believe that it was rather an attempt to denounce the count, strip him of his titles and his land, and take what wealth he did have (as that his father was one of the most prosperous French landowners of the previous generation) for funds to finance the decades of war costs that the French aristocracy owed.

It makes you wonder if Charles VII might have been reading the same playbook his ancestor, Philip IV, did when he essentially did the same to the Knights Templar to plunder all of their wealth and gains for his own budgetary stopgap needs.
