Excellent I live in warren ohio. I will never forget that day.. the sky the color..the loss of homes...property and lives. It traumatized all of us. Been scared of tornados ever since then
I can still see that green sky as we left the old Sparkle in East Palestine, and I remember saying how that was a twister sky. My parents dismissed it with "those don't hit around here". We no sooner got to our camper nearby when it hit. It was an hour or so later when we learned that a tornado had struck near Columbiana OH, lifted as it passed over us, and settled on the ground near Darlington before striking Beaver Falls, leveling the Jamesway shopping center.
Crazy that the woman’s house at 2:00 survived and I couldn’t imagine what they were going through.
But her claim that her house was saved because her doors and windows were open is a dangerous myth. People used to think that if you opened your doors and windows, your house will be spared.
Truth is, your house will be destroyed either way and tryin to open windows is not going to save your house and you will lose precious time getting to shelter doing so.
I was 3. It hit our house with us in the basement in Mercer Co. on Greenfield rd. My family was actually on the front page of the Sharon Herald on the 5 yr anniversary.
It was multi vortices that were circling around the main core of the tornado. Her and her family were extraordinarily lucky because the sub vortices missed their house. Debris could have possibly helped keep the house safe as well because a whole lot of it surrounded the house, making it difficult for the winds to get underneath the house to lift it. At least that's my opinion.😊
I very most definitely remember this tornado.i lived close to Kane when the tornado went through.i had two very young boys and one neice the day of this tornado.
