My uncle was in the SAS. He never told anyone. We found out when he was killed. We’re all proud of him. His name was Simon and he was a one of a kind. He always did stupid stuff, he was very down to earth. None of us ever guessed what he’d achieved

And you should watch a documentary about Christian Craighead, an operator of 22 SAS who was on R&R in Nairobi (Kenya) and saved more than 700 hostages from a hotel in the city center, went in on his own and without orders or colleagues to back him up. He did it on his own initiative.

This only scratched the surface. There is a lot more involved.

As a Swedish Homeguard Youth in the late 1970's we tried to emulate part of this by marching 10 kilometers with our (smaller) backpacks filled with stones. We made it, but strangely enough nobody wanted to repeat it.

Americans: 4:00 oh they are just walking...
also Americans: the store is 500 yards away... lets drive!
😂

American special forces have tried this training none of them passed.

Gurkha Troops are Nepalese & Nepal was never colonised by the British but is a staunch ally of Britain - the history of that relationship & troop selection process would be worthy of a reaction video. IMO.
COPY PASTE: Gurkha troops qualify for admission to the ranks of the SAS. The SAS is known for its elite status and high standards, and Gurkha soldiers, with their unique cultural background and military training, are often considered for such prestigious roles. The SAS is selective, and having Gurkha soldiers among its ranks is a testament to their exceptional qualities and dedication.
The British Army

Love the fixation on " Three Weeks .." bud.
That's just aclimatisation. After that, selection begins. In every theatre they'd be expected to work in

3:14.  That "British countryside" is the Brecon Beacons, just down the road from me.  Some of the wildest  and most dangerous land in the UK.  Men have died there, but it is staggeringly beautiful at the right time of year.
So many times, I have seen US special forces troops admit that the SAS is in a different league to anything they have done.  SEALS, Green Berets, USMC, they all admit that the SAS will walk over them.
Just one tiny aspect of their training I have heard about.  They get on a Chinook helicopter which flies them about 20 feet above the ground with the rear door open, and they jump out.  No parachute or anything, they just jump out and literally hit the ground running...
There is a fairly famous story of an SAS patrol in the first Gulf War.  They were attacked and had to get away as best they could.  One man escaped.  He walked 180 MILES in eight days to get back to safety, and was back on duty THE NEXT DAY....

Check any of the videos on the Iranian Embassy siege in London. This was really the first time the public had seen the  SAS in action.

And if an SAS Trooper stood beside you ,you wouldnt even know as they are not 6ft 6ins supermen with bulging muscles, just your average guy in the street!!

You never really stop training in the forces!

The men we send to bring our boys home. Amazing men ❤

I've met a couple of ex SAS guys in the past.  Very calm, level-headed, and pleasant  guys. Not super human, more super professional.

If you rappel backwards from a building you are going to be fully exposed when passing a window before you can even see inside. Going face down you can peep over the top of the window inside and take necessary action if targets present themselves and thus eliminate threats (hopefully) before they’re even aware.

These are the folks who basically wrote the book on mission sets like Counter Terrorism, every other major western Special Forces outfit is basically modeled after them.

Three US Delta force guys attempted the SAS training. Three failed.

Those Welsh hills are the Brecon Beacons,  its an area of outstanding natural beauty, but has a weather system that makes it a deadly place for the inexperienced. For example, you can  start the day in brilliant sunshine, then within minutes be surrounded by dense disorienting fog, then get soaked in a rain storm which can lead hyperthermia.   This is why its used by the SAS for there selection courses,  as it will take candidates to their limits and beyond.

One thing missing from what you saw of their training is the final "exam" Days of having to endure interrogation under extreme circumstances including being kept in stress positions for 10/12 hours at a time, sound and light abuse, as well as other never disclosed forms of what can only be called torture, and only allowed to sleep 2 hours before going through it all over again, and again. it's not about whether you talk, as most will break under torture, it's about how and what type of information you give and whether you have gone on long enough to make any "real" info irrelevant. All intelligence is time limited and if your side know that you have been captured you can change position, passwords, plans etc. so giving your people the time to do all that is what is important, not that you broke, but when you brake. All the training leading up to that, is what it's all about. Are you SF material not with just your abilities on the battlefield, but your abilities in enemy hands too.

Selection and basic training for the British & American army couldn't be more different. US selection & training is intended to get as many people trained and into service as possible, British is intended to get rid of the people who can't do the job & train the rest. To get to selection for the SAS/SBS you have to be some of the best people already in the army and then their selection is designed to expose every weakness someone has, remove everyone but the very best and only then do they begin training. There are loads of videos on YouTube where US Ranger, Seals etc haven't even made it through the initial endurance phase of SAS selection.
