The “heel” has node cells which are like “stem cells” and with the proper hormone you can manipulate them to either become root cells or by using opposite hormones it can become new shoots, that’s why his success rate is is so good, because the tip of his cutting is loaded with “node cells”

Growing new plants from cuttings is a great way to create give-away plants to our fellow gardening friends...terrific way to build positive karma in a crazy world if you ask me. :)

Sir you might no read my comment prob never but you’re my hero I wish you were the father I didn’t have. Your voice softens my tranquility

Excellent! Could you maybe do a follow-up on the azalea cuttings to show how they've progressed?

Thank you so much, Peter.  You almost made me cry, as I felt like I was listening to my Dad instructing me once again.  I plan on making many cuttings as I need more azalia.

Peter, thank you again. Your enthusiasm for sharing is so enjoyable.

I have great luck with the big clear plastic boxes that salad greens come.  You need to melt drain holes (hot nail) and a few vent holes in top.  Pop the top open as needed.  Clean thoroughly before using.  Thank you, Peter.

There is a lot of confusion about peat moss. Many people are not aware that peat moss is a sustainable industry in Canada. The volume of peat actually increases from year to year as a result of good resource management. Thanks for your excellent videos Peter.

I am a new subscriber here. I am so obsessed of plants and I discovered your Chanel. Thank you for sharing them.

I wish I could just spend the day with you. Your knowledge is such a gift. Thank you for the wonderful teachings.

Well I just broke a branch off my azalea by accident, in the first week of September. I'll try to get some heel cuttings off of the branch to root, even though it's not the ideal time of year. Thanks for the tips!

I've been binge watching these videos for the last two weeks. Thanks for all this work Peter.

Thanks Peter. I’ve read all your books but the videos are a fantastic source of info with you explaining everything. Thank you.

Hey peter great video, I just wanted to let you know you can use aloe as a rooting hormone. Just stick the cutting in a fresh cut aloe leaf gel. It has rooting hormones and is naturally antimicrobial

thank you for sharing your knowledge in propagating Azaleas!

I'm getting my bonsia today thanks to you I know what I'm doing thanks dude

Another great little breakfast vid, only problem I have is that it’s not Sunday so now I have to go to work.

Thank you for posting this. I love your channel. I followed what you advices and it worked for me. Thanks again to you and your staff for doing this.

I'm extremely grateful for this video. I've been doing ficus cuttings, this information is so valuable!

i tried rooting the cuttings again, in late august and at least 80% of them are now developing new leaves. this time i used a heating mat and two basic boxes from jysk. for substrate i used pure sphagnum moss which i soaked for a day first. the box is 17 cm deep and i filled it up to the top, took long cuttings, used a stick to create the holes for them and then stuck the cuttings all the way down. i didn't use rooting hormone but i did use my nail to scratch the bark on the cuttings, maybe an inch or two from the bottom. i made a few tiny holes at the bottom of the box and used the lid to collect the run off water. i used a second box as a dome to keep moisture levels high. i opened the lid only a few times since i set the whole thing up and i also watered only once or twice with very little water. all the moisture stays inside the enclosure and there's no need to water, just air out maybe once a week. when nights got cooler, i placed the whole thing on a heating mat and that's been working out wonderfully. two boxes, sphagnum moss and the heating mat cost about 70 euro in total. i was always trying to cut corners and leave things out i assumed are not needed but this time i did everything right and it worked out great.

trying to be too clever is one of the reasons my earlier attempt was not successful. the containers weren't deep enough, the lids were too big and there was a gap between the lid and the container so all all the moisture could get out. also, the summer was crazy dry.
