The first time my mother (RIP) saw Cannon and Ball she pointed at the TV and exclaimed ‘Eeee, little Bobby Harper!’ Turns out they had worked together in the mills. Funny blokes. RIP Bobby.
Worked with Tom & Bob many times, as a professional dancer & then singer. On this video, I am one of the backing singers, standing nearest to Tommy, I am the highest harmony & my two former singing partners, are at the right side, matching dresses to mine. The smaller lady next to me, is Susie Mathis, who was our sort of guardian at that time, as we were just forming our act then. Happy Days.
Thanks for the entertainment through my childhood bobby. I'm going to get the pics i took of me & my wife & you & tommy. It was a pleasure to have met you both after meeting up after the show at the burnley mechanics. I'll miss our chats on messenger 😢 A pleasure to have called you a friend. Rest in peace bobby.
I met both of them in a slate museum shop in Wales of all places. They were just as funny walking around the shop commenting on all the stuff in there. I then went up to them and we chatted for a while. I said where I lived and they said one of their first gigs was where I lived and I never knew. I'm short but Bobby was shorter then me. It was quite funny. This was near to closing time for the shop and museum, so only us and two other customers were in the shop, so it felt like a very personal one to one chat with them. We saw them leave too. Think it was a grey people carrier, maybe a Renault Espace and looked like it could have been their wives with them in the car. Two adult women anyway. 😁
The first time I saw them was Wheeltappers June 1976. Tommy sang He Ain't Heavy. And when he carried Bobby off there wasnt a dry eye in our house. I was recovering from surgery and allowed to stay up late. Paul Daniels the magician was also on the same show. Thank you Paul for bringing back happy memories.
A workmate once walked up to the stage while they were WorkinG & talked to C&B like Bobby is to Tommy .They,d often get threatened with a doing cause some crowds thought bobby was a heckler & ,outside, the old ladies took exception to Tommy picking on bobby. Bernard probably liked them but he first greeted them by saying "Bloody hell, this act,s a first , Two straight men!"
Before they were ever heard of by media and the general public, they got a spot at the Batley variety club. They were bottom of the bill and probably a filler act but it would have been seen as a big move up to them. I was on a works 'do that night and everyone thought they were brilliant - so much so, we were all saying 'rock on Tommy the next day at work. Much to the bemusement of workmates that weren't there.
Thanks for all of your content. Is been in touch with Network DVD to get series 8 and 9 released and they were always dismissive. Having series 9 and the 86 and 88 Xmas specials...plus their 88 special is brilliant. Can't thank you enough. Great content
