A lot of people ask how do you know all of this stuff about handloading with different powders, primers etc. Truth is it takes a lot of research, development and testing. Often times a load that sounds good on paper does not wind up working. Some loads work great in some guns and not very good in others. Lots of trial and error leads to the development of a good load. This load wound up not working for this rifle and thats ok, its all part of the process.

As a lot of guys noticed I was suffering from some hangfires with this particular load. As I was shooting I noticed 3. I failed to mention this in the video. I don't suggest this particular load. However I think these could be avoided by using a hotter primer. I did switch back to my original load, because I guess if it ain't broke don't fix it. I was just trying to gain a little extra velocity. Thanks for watching

Thanks Porter. More like this. I got a .25-06 when I was 15. 61 now and still have that same rifle. .25-06 and .270 are extremely capable, hard to beat cartridges.

My 25-06 hunting rifle likes the slow, now discontinued IMR8133 at near 100% case capacity & 117gr Sierras. Cold barrel groups under 1moa @ 3150fps.

One of my favorite rifle calibers. Hopefully Ruger starts producing the M77 in 25-06. It's definitely on my list to get in the near future. Great content!!!

I had the a left hand MKII green stainless laminate in 25-06, sold it which was an absolute sin. Took me forever to find another one but I found a Hawkeye just like this last year. Great rifles I wish Ruger would bring them back.

So, I've been shooting 25-06 since 1984, I currently own three of them. Try 120 gr Nosler Partition bullets and some Retumbo powder, I'm shooting 3100 fps with .75 moa accuracy and it's an absolute hammer on mule deer and elk!

That's a handsome rifle and the 25-06 is certainly a great muley and pronghorn cartridge. I personally think a 115-120 grain bullet is a better choice for the 25-06 since I like that they buck the wind better at longer distances.

Keep the 25-06 videos coming, Port! What a fantastic cartridge. I’m getting 3325 from the Barnes 100 grain TTSX factory load out of a 26” barrel (with sub MOA accuracy). Perhaps you and Brian could do an autopsy on one and figure out what powder they’re using. I’ll be glad to send you a few if you’ll send the specs 😉! Just kidding, we’re not Underwood. Hey Porter. I’m using Reloder 22 in my.25-06. 100 grain partition going 3430fs. Works great on chital and reds here in Australia. Keep the videos coming. Regards Lloyd

I love my 25-06, it is a commercial large-ring Mauser 98 that had been re-barreled in the '60s (22" barrel) sometime for that caliber. After I purchased it, I topped it with an early '70s Weaver V9 scope. The recoil is barely noticeable, but the muzzle blast is HORRIBLE, it will literally blind the shooter for a full instant. Perhaps that is why the end of the barrel is threaded for a suppressor. I enjoyed the video!

I use H4831 with 117 Gr Hornady BTSP. My model 70 shoots it very well. I shot an antelope at a measured 325 yards with it - good luck with your load testing

I have a 25-06 in a Ruger #1 Varmint 24" barrel. With 70, 75, 85, and 87 grain bullets from Hornady and Speer, it will group about 1/2" at 100 yards. With bullets over 100 grains, groups are more like 1-1/2" ; sometimes larger. It's felled a number of varmints and three deer. The Winchester 90 grain PEP is a good performer, around 3/4" groups. Best powder so far is H-4831.

This video is why I hate loading for accuracy for rifles. “Well that was a waste of components and effort, back to the reloading bench.” 😅 Still fun to watch Port and Brian!
