I was part of the first audience. My father and I were keen on aviation and we saw this programme called Monty Python's Flying Circus was coming on the BBC (quite late in the evening) and so we waited to see the odd aeroplane or two. When the show started, my father's disappointment was tangible. After a moment of startled bewilderment, I began to enjoy the show. My father's only comment then and thereafter was 'bloody rubbish, not one sodding aeroplane.' He thus exposed the generation gap between me and him. It was a privilege to watch a piece of television history.
First time I saw this, when Gilliam knocks the urn over, I couldn't stop laughing for at least 20 mins. My brother & mother thought I'd lost my fucking mind.
Anyone watching this, look for the 20th MP anniversary special that came out in 1989. It's hosted by Steve Martin & features Graham's last appearance onscreen. Great tribute!
