I’m entering Mathare, one of the most talked-about neighborhoods in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya!

Together with locals who know the area well, I walk through its narrow streets and see firsthand what daily life is really like here.

Children creating their own games with bottle caps, women working nonstop, stalls selling second-hand clothes… Every corner of Mathare reveals a different story.

During this journey through Kenya, I share my own observations of children growing up beside open sewage channels and the difficult conditions faced by people living in homes without toilets or bathrooms.

In the video, I also talk about an incident reported by The Standard on September 17, 2026. Members of MP T.J. Kajwang’s team were robbed during a visit to the area, and police safely escorted the MP out of the neighborhood.

So what is life really like inside a neighborhood that often appears in the news?

How do people make a living? Where do children play?

We explore Mathare by meeting the people who actually live here.

There is a huge difference between looking at a neighborhood from the outside and actually walking into it and meeting its people.

Which scene affected you the most? Write it in the comments.
