I love it when death is depicted as gentle, kind and welcoming.

The Jamaican lady is famous in her country. She also help out Brad Pitt with nailing the accent. She gave a wonderful performance and this was if not the best scene in the movie for many people.

The idea of death speaking the exact same accent as the old lady to comfort her as she's in pain just takes away any hilarity or comedy of Brad Pitt doing a Carribbean accent.

People praise Brad, and rightfully so, but the old lady gives a masterful display of physical acting: every face every expression, absolutely nailed them all

I love how the mom looks at him and knows straight away what he is.

The first time I saw this scene I thought Joe was taking away her pain, but after thought I think Joe was showing her the beauty of the next place to comfort her.

The look that woman’s daughter gave Brad Pitt was absolutely stunning. Half suspicious, half amazement and all wrapped in surprise.

The actress who played the elderly woman died in 2020 at age 102

When we all pass, may it be as gentle, sweet, and painless.

Tbh I like how when she calls him Obeah his body langauge says something like "what's this?" or "interesting" giving off the air that she actually hit the nail on the head when he completely faces her

That was brilliant. He's not used to being human and his awkwardness is so convincing.

He is a 'gentleman', and wants to put others at their ease

I love when he gives her a glimpse into the next step and she smiles

The facial expressions and dialogue in this scene are way underrated.

Brad speaking Jamaican Patois with perfect accent shows his magnitude as a talented, versatile and charismatic actor

I like that he doesn't have magic powers he shouldn't have. All he can do is talk different languages and show her what death will be like. Things that fit him.

2:09 valid reaction with how off-putting Joe is here, just standing there creepily saying everything gunna be alright 😂

one of my favorite scene. When the mother asks her daughter to not leave, she doesn't shy away from looking at what she fears. Strong woman, there is alot being communicated here more than just Brad Pits' excellent accent. Alot of body language, and no fear of a pause allowing words to sink in a little more.

For anyone wondering old lady and joe black spoke in jamaican patois. If you are native english speaker you will understand jamaican patois but you need to listen carefully.
