Every guitar is different. Since this beautiful Les Paul Standard 60's had just undergone a complete re-fret including a new nut, a couple of key setup points had already been taken care of - namely setting relief and a general cleaning. Otherwise, what follows is a detailed setup process that maximizes both tone and playability.

Thanks Steve. Excellent masterclass in a professional setup of a Gibson LP. I learned several ve unflattering ips on how to persuade my Les Paul to sing. You are very methodical Luthier who can actually play exceedingly well. John a Bluesman.

Fascinating video. A lot to process. So the strings sit 1/8” over the humbucker?

Ever tried Callaham locking studs for the tailpiece? They are brilliant and no one can see the change. Nice work btw.! I use an old KORG GT-2 tuner for setups, it has the best reading and needle I've found so far 😉

I have a 2019 LP standard in ice tea, I’m intrigued by the fret work on this guitar, I’ll bet I’d like it a lot!

My original '68 Custom has a very heavy tailpiece. Sounds great so I don't understand what's the deal about a light one.

Do you cut straight or slanted slots? I have been teaching myself how to cut a nut blank and I get better results with slanted slots. I am going to try straight slots and sort or bell it our towards the break angle.

U setup the initial action and neck relief just like my wife cooks, no messurings needed 😂

Excellent video…..1/8” is also my eyeball check on the distance from pole piece to string while fretting at 22….i am very concerned that magnetic field will affect the string vibration and create a “warble” especially at the neck pickup. For me I will err on less output from the pickup rather than have my string vibration damped.

Want to fix Gibson tuning problems? Get a String Butler. Solved all my problems instantly. Very, very happy!

Talks about not holding parts above the guitar then proceeds to feed the strings into the tailpiece almost every ball end slaps the body of the guitar…. Ouch

Adjusting pole pieces without plugging in for a listening test to assess string to string output?? Makes no sense. Adjusting thumbwheels without relieving the string pressure first?? That’s a good way to bend the posts. Your methods are not for me.

NEVER USE A SCREW DRIVER TO RAISE OR LOWER THE TAIL PIECE,MAJOR NO NO

@vinnier6 5 months ago

I sure hope that’s your guitar…not cool the way you just pulled the strings through letting the ball end just bouncing off the body of the guitar…thumbs down for that buddy
