As a huge Nebraska fan, this has to be one of the best college football documentaries I've ever seen.  I certainly remember that Texas team and they ranked right up there as one of the best ever.

I remember the 69 shoot out with Ark and Tex.  As a die hard Ark fan that game broke my heart at 9 years old.  I now can understand just how good of a Coach Mr Royal was. The world needs more people like Coach Royal and Coach Broyles.

I’ll never forget when Coach Royal told the team about Freddie Steinmark’s cancer diagnosis in the Moore Hill Hall dining room. Very somber and emotional.

This hits hard for me. Colorado born and raised

RIP to my favorite all time Longhorn Steve Wooster a great player on this 69 team.

Peschel's catch would've been an unreal highlight today. And he did it with no sticky gloves. Over the shoulder like that with 2 defenders right there. That's an all world throw and catch

That is one of the best football documentaries and stories ever.

1969  - Star Trek, Moon Landing, Vietnam War, UT has one of the most dramatic football seasons ever....  DR stood the league on it's head with the wishbone, last 2 games were nail bitters, and the Freddie Steinmark story. It was a remarkable year.

Freddy Steinmark continued (at least for a while) to attend classes on crutches with his pant leg gathered up and pinned. His presence (by himself and without assistance) which I witnessed one day on campus, was sad, sobering and yet inspiring. A guy like that is one in a million and worthy of our utmost respect.

I grew up an ou fan , but now a days just a fan of college football, this was an inspiring team. Freddie steinmark was a truly courageous overcomer, who had faith in Jesus! What matters most in life is not the trophy or the rings, but are we born again , have we trusted Jesus and received Gods free gift of salvation?

Im a diehard OU fan, just now seeing this documentary just hours before the 2025 Red River Shootout. This documentary is fantastic! This is a part of history I've never seen, i love President Nixons halftime report, he would have made an Awesome Football Coach haha!
My #1 sport is College Football, its the best sport in the world to me.
We all have rich traditions and history for our team that we grew up by. We're all very proud of our community or city. We all love this sport deeply, and we all have a...strong, belly rippling hunger to prove how great our home town is, and the best way to show just how great our place is .... is by winning big football games against other great teams and communities across the country.

I hear the word hate a lot when it comes to Red River Shootout, and sometimes there's absolutely real beef going on between our teams.

But I really think its a passion of our territory,  meets respect for one another.
I mostly have fun talking  with my Texas friends and family, a healthy place of unspoken rules of our little room for trash talking, when we have a good zinger. We always laugh, we don't take it too serious, its never a screaming match....nah, ...never!

Most of the time, Texas fans are saying far worse things about their own team than I could ever come up with!!! And vise versa with my Sooners, when we had no QB and sucked worse than ive ever seen!  We was absolutely hopeless that year! For Texas it was like having to hunt food for survival, but you're stuck in a Walmart for today.... that meat in a pack in a fridge has no chance at all to survive ! Its already done before the game!

I know we talk a lot of trash online, but I know behind it all, at the root of the rivalry.

We respect each other

Us two fan bases are mostly smart football minds with a decent football IQ,  we understand this sport and what it takes to win  a the highest level.
That's what I love about the rivalry the most.
We understand our team and each others team,  and how our team can win because fans, X or O

Like right now,  the media is saying Texas best chance is for Arch to have to be a super man, rushing the ball  and attacking the safeties deep with quick short passes.
But I disagree

that's the 1st obvious possibility that OU is anticipating to see,  so I think Sark is going to have a completely different gameplan than the obvious 1st idea.

Im curious to see what Sark does, Im predicting  2 fake punt plays for those bad situations.
And at least 1 trick play of some kind.

And probably just a mixed bag on offense of the regular offense with the predicted offense and a few trick plays,  it might be enough to confuse my OU Defense

Had the honor of meeting Bobby Wuensch at His Business in Houston!

I didn't realize that so many of them have joined Freddie. Very sad.

This is why I am a Longhorn -Hook'em

Love that when Coach and Street were reviewing play - Street's response was "yes sir".................  Got to love a good ole Texas boy!

That was the first football game I watched from start to finish at that time.I was 11yrs in the 6th grade.🤘

I’m 72, and it didn’t hurt that the offensive coordinator had 4 if the greatest running backs that ever played the game. He came up w/ the Wishbone. He went to Texas A&M, fired. He went to Mississippi State, fired. It never hurts to have great athletes. And they were 4 of the best!!

Even though I love those Texas Tech Red Raiders, this takes you back to the days of football when it was football !!!  No endorsements, No NIL, just guys who just went out on a Saturday afternoon and kicked butt !!!!  I miss the SWC BAD

As a native Austinite I had graduated from UT in 1968 and my wife and I were lonely Longhorns in the Army in 1969 in Maryland. Fortunately we met some fellow Longhorn fans at church. They had a television and we didn’t. They invited us to their apartment to watch the Texas vs Arkansas “game of the century” in Fayetteville, AK in 1969. Texas was behind and we cried for most of the game, but a pass on 4th and long in the 4th quarter put the Longhorns in a position for a go ahead touchdown. We jumped up and down, cried and hugged each other. Texas went on to win. We watched President Nixon present the Trophy to the #1 college football team in the 100th year of college football, much to Frank Broyles (Arkansas coach) disappointment.

A friend of mine who was in the Longhorn Band that year told me that when Texas scored that go-ahead touchdown, the Longhorn band was the recipient of a barrage of half empty (glass) beer bottles courtesy of the nearby Razorback fans.i understand that local Arkansas gas stations refused to sell gasoline to any car with Texas License plates.

To be nice, another Maryland couple graciously invited us to their house to watch Texas vs Navy in the Cotton Bowl on New Years Day. They knew we didn’t have a television. At halftime they were very impressed at the size of the Longhorn Band. Texas won again. We were officially National Champions!

After Texas defeated Notre Dame in the following Cotton Bowl a warrant officer (not a Longhorn fan) told me “Texas is the luckiest team I have ever seen.”

A woman I worked with was a Penn State fan who thought they should have been National Champions.

That was a great time to be a Texas Longhorn in hostile territory.

This brings back so many great memories. My dad was a UT alumni & throughout the 60’s & 70’s he always had season tickets, so I went to many home games with him. We had both Aggie alums & an Arkansas alum in our neighborhood growing up & I remember my dad calling up the Arkansas alum down the street after that 69 winfor some good natured ribbing but he took it well.
