Charlie Chan's Secret (1936)
A wealthy heir is presumed lost at sea after an ocean liner sinks near Hawaii. But Charlie Chan isn't convinced that Allen Colby is really dead.
When evidence suggests that Colby may have survived — and that someone had already tried to kill him — Chan travels to San Francisco to investigate.
What awaits him is a mysterious family estate filled with suspicious relatives, secret passages, hidden devices, and a séance that takes an unexpectedly sinister turn.
Colby suddenly reappears at the family mansion, only to be attacked before he can reveal what he knows. Then, during a séance, his image appears in the darkness. When the lights come back on, Charlie Chan discovers that something terrible has happened.
But this mansion holds more secrets than anyone realizes.
As Chan searches for answers, he uncovers hidden panels, strange radio equipment, a mysterious ultraviolet trick, and a series of attempts to silence anyone who gets too close to the truth.
With a fortune at stake and nearly everyone having a possible motive, Chan must determine who is telling the truth — and who is hiding behind an elaborate deception.
Starring Warner Oland as the legendary detective Charlie Chan, with Rosina Lawrence, Henrietta Crosman, Charles Quigley, Edward Trevor, and Astrid Allwyn, Charlie Chan's Secret was released by Twentieth Century-Fox in 1936 and directed by Gordon Wiles. The film runs approximately 71 minutes.
Who can Charlie Chan trust? What is really happening inside the mysterious mansion? And what secret is someone willing to protect at any cost?
