The DJI Power 2000 looks like another 2kWh portable power station — but it has a trick that made it much more interesting to me.
When we're away, I can use it as a conventional portable power station to charge our electric bikes and power equipment. But when we get home, instead of leaving that stored energy sitting unused in the shed, the Power 2000 can be connected to the house and used as a grid-tied battery.
In this video I put that feature to the test.
I look at the DJI Power 2000 as a portable power station, explain how its grid-tied energy storage mode works, have a fused spur installed for the UK connection, and then actually feed energy from the battery back into my home.
We also take a look at the DJI Home app, time-of-use charging and discharging, the 800W grid-tied output limit, expansion batteries and whether combining portable power with home energy storage actually makes sense.
⚡ IN THIS VIDEO
• Why I normally struggle to justify portable power stations
• Charging our electric bikes away from home
• 2,048Wh battery capacity
• Using the Power 2000 as a grid-tied home battery
• UK fused-spur installation
• Up to 800W grid-tied discharge
• DJI Home app and energy management
• Time-of-use charging and discharging
• Solar integration
• Expansion up to 22.5kWh
• The limitations you need to know about
One important UK point: feeding power back into your home is not simply a case of plugging the Power 2000 into a normal 13A socket. My installation uses a dedicated fused spur installed by a qualified electrician.
DJI supplied the Power 2000 featured in this video. DJI did not control my conclusions or what I said about the product.
I'll continue using the Power 2000 over the coming months both as a portable power station and as part of my home-energy setup, and I'll report back on how it performs in real-world use.
