I once worked with a guy who, one day, announced that he thought migraines were all in a person’s head, ie: that he didn’t believe in them. I opted (at first) to keep things mellow at the workplace and instead reacted to the pun: “Of course they are (in your head)– that’s why they’re called headaches!” Then he doubled down, so I was forced to inform him firmly that I, in fact, suffered from migraines and that they were very real, very debilitating and practically incurable. Luckily he was the type of guy who knew when it was time to keep quiet and he did.

A panic attack literally feels like dying. It's a horrible, awful feeling and to try to force a situation that will cause one is NOT friend behavior.

telling someone with severe anxiety they cant take their prescription meds because "no drugs at my wedding" then still expecting them to give a speech is actually unhinged behavior. like imagine banning someones insulin then wondering why they collapsed. and then when the groom found out the truth and asked for a divorce she really said "you always wanted him didnt you" like girl the only thing op wanted was to not have a panic attack at your wedding. the audacity levels are off the charts

I don’t think the first poster was even being petty. The groom should absolutely know that there is a chance the bride will do the same to his sister. That’s a safety concern depending on her health situations. I would guess the groom agreed since he divorced her over it.

As a GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) patient, thank you for the brief explanation of this disorder. "Sucking it up" just deepens anxiety.

The first story was so ridiculous. I take medication to keep my epilepsy under control, and if the bride ever told me not to bring my medication with me to a wedding, where I could potentially have a seizure that would also kill me, I would also leave.

The first bride not only wouldn’t allow her meds but proceeded to be the cause of the panic attack by announcing the friends speech when she had said she couldn’t do it. Not much of a friend

In the first story, I think a major point being overlooked here is how the bride set the OP up. No medicine, ok unreasonable but let’s go with it. The OP said “without the meds I won’t be able to do the speech.” Bride said ok and the PROCEEDS TO ANNOUNCE THE OP IN FRONT OF EVERYBODY TO COME UP AND SPEAK!!! That is not best friend behavior…anything OP did to bride after that was well deserved!

Someone who formerly suffered from panic disorder with severe anxiety here. I literally could NOT control my panic attacks, and it started ruining my life as a teen. I had multiple a day, and I did this without meds too (wish I hadn't but I was hiding it from my parents). That first story: who needs enemies with a friend like that. Also, for people suffering with it in this comment section: it WILL and DOES get better. Life is so rad now. Therapy and psychologists are great, and meds truly helped.

4:37 my opinion on this story, as a recovering addict, how TF are her guests going to have ANY CLUE that another guest has prescription meds in their purse or car at someone’s reception? That is such a wild thing… it’s not like she was hitting a j on the dance floor… or shooting up at the table… that bride was just looking for something to bitch about 🙄

If someone has such anxiety but still wants to give a speech at a wedding ,they can record themselves and have it played. They can also write it down and have someone else read it at the event. So they can still be included and tell the bride and groom their good wishes but without the stress of public speaking.
