2027 90 mm Freeride Ski Comparison with SkiEssentials

This is an interesting category as it's home to both park-specific twin tips and also playful and maneuverable all-mountain skis. It makes for a slightly different conversation than most of our Ski Comparisons because of that variety. Enjoy!

Please keep including your personal picks in the rest of your videos! Really enjoyed that.

Jeff’s annual mirus cor user base rant never disappoints! 😂

On paper I probably shouldnt be a twin tip skier but I ski twins 90% of the time because I like the closer to center mount point feel, twins generally have more tail rocker and i like the tail release (especially with the more forward mount point) and just generally want a more surfy feel than the more locked in feel of most directional skis, the biggest exception to this in my quiver is of course the unleashed 98 . Had a lot of fun on the old optic 92 definitely need to demo the new 88.

I think it would be really cool after all of your comparison videos are out, to do an all star ski comparison. 1 video for each category all mountain, freeride, frontside and pow. Basically take top 2-3 favorites from each width and have a battle royale regardless of width and come out with the ultimate Champs from each category. What’s the 1 ski your going to grab for that vibe. I guess similar to your Quiver videos but a little different spin on it.

Bob really wanted to introduce the Optic 88. That's his ski!! 🤣

I have a pair of Captis and agree with the assessment on the tip being very solid and I think it tends to get buried under powder. Love the ski though

please try out the simply recreation skis!!

It's really often that I'm skiing with friends or family that aren't super advanced... maybe half the time? There's no more fun ski on to be when you're with friends and family than the Mirus Cor. Also, they can't follow directly behind you because of the rooster tail they often spit out. That said, the new DPS Pisteworks 79 and 89 do the same thing and don't have a speed limit.

Studio 1 is so so good. Has a ton of pop, edges hold up, base runs fast.

I’m 5’10 on the 183 at dead centre. I could also ski the 178, but do appreciate the extra stability.

Jeff is 100% right about the nightstick. I skied my son's center-mounted nightstick for all Mountain skiing and did not enjoy it. He thinks it's a really good option for all mountain and Park😅. He's only 16. But he has had a chance to try some different skis. So he has a little bit reference

i would probably go with Bob and get that Optic.. i do have a couple pairs of red skis so i would probably be good with that color..

Meghan can make any ski look like the best ski (ARV 88 in this case). Impressive

Can attest to the backing out of tricky spots! But also I care about the park... I don't use all my twin tips in the park, and all my skis right now are twin tips. I like for lazy backwards skiing for coaching as well, but tricky situations on the east coast trees is really up there.

Man Megan just is such a good skier every time I see her skiing it’s like how do I do that….

Would love to hear mention of where you'd place the Optic 88 in the all mountain video. Would it be more left, mid, or right? I am almost opposite on the graphics... Last year was so bad, but the red looks much better... The best was that sand color from 2 years ago though.
