Let’s start learning Japanese 🇯🇵

as someone who has lived and worked in japan for the last 16 years and who has PR, here is my advice: learn the culture, the language but have the freedom to interact with the language and the culture on your terms. that doesn't mean disrespecting the culture, it just means setting your own boundaries. that's what has kept me here for so long. i just interact with the culture when i need to or want to. but other than that, i'm just out here doing my own thing.

So lucky they had the opportunity. At least they tried. Sometimes things don't work out.

why are there so many angry people in the comments? these people didn’t want to live in Japan long term… so what? everyone has different priorities and goals in life. I love their perspectives, thanks

Hi Takashii, I actually saw you while filming the lady with the brown shirt and pocketbook near Iyoshi Cola in shibuya last month, but didn't want to bother you while filming. It was like seeing a celebrity!

I am orogianally From Japan and Japanese but i had lived in USA.. for a long time. I came back to Japan..I am not Japanese mind anymore. I can not be still and want to dance and listen to music etc.. No face expressions.. etc.. But i have to stay here for my mom..I toally understand their pains and realazations. You get depressed if you are not careful.

Japan in short is a place (so I found while working there) for foreigners who are strongly self-sorting. I mean that if you can spend a long time by yourself and not feel lonely, if you have strength of your convictions and  don't need a lot of validation from, or time socializing with, others, you'll be alright. Most people in my opinion though are not like that.

I lived there for almost 3 years, now living in Sweden. For me it was just another experience to add to my list, not a life goal. Now I only go back on vacation, it's great!

I came to Japan on 2017 as a student and now i am a Japanese national ( i got citizenship in 2023) Its easy to settle here, if only you understand the culture and set boundaries. Japanese are kind, not friendly. There is a difference!

I lived in Japan for 7 years and left to move back home to Hawaii. One thing I realized after leaving is that Japan had a better quality of life and it’s hard now to accept the standards in Hawaii, knowing that there is so much more in Japan.

Living in Japan for the past 20 years now. Great country  but you'll always be an outsider no matter what. That's something you'll have to keep in mind if you want to move here. Japan isn't for everyone. I personally love it here and planning never to leave....

living abroad is hard but depends on the personality and goals

As someone who has lived for 10 years in Japan and changed his nationality to Japanese, I truly can understand how these foreigners are feeling towards the Japanese society.
I speak Japanese fluently and naturally compared to most foreigners and when I make reservasions via phone call, they always think I am Japanese judging from my Japanese  accent and intonations.
But when I go to a store to buy something with my Japanese girlfriend, even though I speak my perfect Japanese to the clerks, they never look at me in the eyes and always look at my Japanese girlfriend as if she is the one talking.
It's like they make filters just because my face isn't Japanese and no matter how good your Japanese is, the moment they think you're a foreigner, your Japanese language will pass through their ears as if they don't hear you speaking. which I personally think is very rude attitude of the Japanese people. They will never accept you so, it is how you accept the fact that you're not completely accepted in the society in order to be able to live in Japan forever.

"I will never truly feel completely a part of Japan" is the #1 comment on all of these types of youtube videos.

I have been living in Japan for 15 years, but I want to go back to Thailand every day. 😂😂😂 I once asked my 10-year-old half-Japanese daughter if she would move back to Thailand with me. She said, “Not yet, because I have friends at school, and for now, we need to stay here together.” I look forward to returning to Thailand when my daughter grows up.

Most people I’ve met who have lived in Japan always carry a little bit of that Japan vibe with them😊 Maybe it comes out more when they realise I’m Japanese. I hope they always hold on to the memories they made in Japan. Wishing them all the best. may their time in Japan continue to shape their lives in a positive way♥️

11:52 In my understanding, Japanese people desire conformance. It is probably not that they think you are stupid. But they expect everyone act in the same way especially in workplace. I think this is what westerners might find difficult.

I was relieved to hear that they didn't hate Japan as Japanese. Japan is quite culturally different from Western countries, so I think there are few people who fit Japan. I look forward to seeing them visit Japan again if they have the opportunity.

Japan is very ethno concentric and clannish. Tolerance and friendship is the best you will get. But wide society acceptance is still a pipe dream
