Welcome to Chapter7 – Substitution and Elimination Reactions. For most people, this is the hardest chapter along with chapter 8 (reactions of alkenes). My recommendation is
1) Taking note “in your own words” while watching the videos. This technique will help you grasp the concepts in more detail than just watching.
2) For chapter 8, making a list of all reactions. In each reaction, write out reagents, mechanism, unique features (syn, anti, Markovnikov, etc). This will help later when you predict products and deal with synthesis questions.
3) Spending the majority of time practicing. There is no short cut. If you want to get good at a skill, you have to practice it often.
As always, let me know if you have any question by leaving a comment or contact me directly at ppunthasee@ufl.edu. Good luck!
