The Nintendo Switch 2 looks remarkably similar to its predecessor, and that was entirely intentional. In this documentary, we reconstruct how Nintendo developed the successor to its best-selling console of all time and what happened during its first year on the market.
The story begins in 2017, when Mario Kart World was still being developed for the original Switch, and follows the development of the new hardware, the limitations Nintendo's teams began to encounter, the prototypes of the magnetic Joy-Con controllers, the birth of GameChat, backward compatibility, and the decisions that ultimately shaped the Nintendo Switch 2.
Then we follow its unveiling and launch in 2025: the $450 price tag, the initial reviews, pre-orders, Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bank, and the record-breaking sales in its first few days. Finally, we cover its entire first year, from the Nintendo Switch 2 Editions and Pokémon to the memory price crisis and the price increase announced before its first anniversary.
This is the story of the Nintendo Switch 2: from its development to its first year.
