How does God call a prophet, and what happens when that calling demands obedience, confronting sin, or remaining faithful in the face of rejection?

In this commentary on **Sabbath School Lesson 2 2026, “The Calling of a Prophet”**, we will study the lives of Abraham, Elijah, Isaiah, Daniel, and John the Baptist. Each received a different mission, but all had to learn that the prophetic calling was not a privilege to gain recognition, but a responsibility in service to God and His people.

However, the prophets were not invulnerable. They faced opposition, threats, doubt, loneliness, and situations that seemed to contradict what God had asked them to proclaim. How did they manage to remain faithful? What is the relationship between the prophet’s message, their character, and their way of life? How can we distinguish between the voice of God and the human expectations we often build around it?

Throughout this Adventist Bible study, we will see that the true prophetic voice calls for repentance, confronts idolatry, reveals the gospel, sustains hope, and always directs attention to Jesus Christ. The messenger must never take the place of the Lord who called him.

Although not all of us receive the gift of prophecy, we have all been called to live as faithful witnesses. Join me in this Sabbath School lesson for the fourth quarter of 2026 and discover what the lives of the prophets can teach us about our obedience, our witness, and our Christian mission.
