Aww, poor Moggy, poor you.
Mine broke down one as I stopped at traffic lights one day.
No ignition nothing.
Pushed the car to the side and started investigating. Obviously an electrical problem.
After much fiddling I realised it was one of the main 50A fuses.
Just as the breakdown van turned up I had the engine running but no indicators.
We were right opposite a pub and much to our embarrassment there was a big cheer from the locals sitting outside when she fired up...
I asked the breakdown chap to follow us home (less than 2 miles away), just in case we had problems, but all was well.
Again another huge cheer and waves from the pub as we moved off towards home.
Spend a few hours checking every connection and wiring but couldn't find anything obvious.
We have used the car since with no faults, I think the fuse just broke under the cap.
I always carry spares (including a box of fuses now).
Luckily I was able to safely fiddle due to the location, but it's never really a good idea on a busy road.
Best to call breakdown services, they have bright colours and flashing lights to warn others.

Today's petrol is the culprit for so many road side break downs in classic cars.
Definitely avoid E10.

My mom also had old  vw beetle and one day it suddenly break down and doesn't want to start..but my mom didn't give up..but atlast we have to call mechanic 😅

When the fuel issue gets sorted do a few short trips on quiet roads to build faith in the car… I also noticed you topped up the radiator?.. If there are any issues with the cooling system losing coolant try and get it sorted to preserve your engine life… If owning a classic car is new to you give it some time to adjust, they will reward you with smiles per mile.

I would not drive a mogg on a long distance jorney with the old points type fuel pump but with a SU electronic pump and a tool box of spares and whitworth tools i dont see any issues

this is my greatest fear i think of taking our Morris ( Matilda ) out and braking down somewhere but in the same context its also the fun part too of owning a classic vehicle if that makes sense , is also why am thinking about what to put in my spares box in the boot and what spanners i need etc  , we have breakdown cover too just in case, am enjoying your moggy adventures 👍👍

Minors had their problems, served my time on them but they were easy to fix. Fuel pump was just about it. In this day and age I would always have a spare, along with points and con.

Next time try to be more patient, it may of overheated.
You should be able to hear/feel the fuel pump. If not, give it a whack.

Just thinking Isobel, would it not have been safer to use the passenger door rather than the driver door? In that way, you would not have had to be so close to the passing traffic.
