I was sitting on a beach in Malibu when I met a California surfer girl who wanted to know what life was like in Africa. The questions got progressively stranger from there.

I love Trevor Noah! In defense of the sharks they are critical for ocean health and honestly it's more likely you'll be struck by lightening than be bit by a shark. Keep up the good work sir!

No, we do not have waves in Africa. That's why sailors LOVE sailing the Cape. It's so peaceful and quiet. No ships ever sunk there. None.

The funny thing is that South Africa is home to some of the best surfing in the world (Jeffrey 's bay, and for big surf, Dungeons) and some of the legends of the surf world (Shaun Thomson, Wendy Botha and more).

One of the lifeguards I worked with in Sarasota County FL was Alan Levin. He'd been a lifeguard in South Africa, where he was born. He also surfed.
