I test ride the new automatic gearbox Yamaha MT-09 Y-AMT. Can this old dog learn new tricks, or are there too many buttons to press and get confused! Watch this if you are going to take one out for a test ride demo ride.

Im a huge fan of auto bikes, I find them much more fun to ride as don’t have to think about gears.

I just paid for mine yesterday, I’m a fresh rider. Going to pick it up Monday. Can’t wait really, this thing is a masterpiece

Twist and go is drastically underrated. It's perfect for around town and commuting. The option to go manual for the spirited rides on the twisties is excellent. I reckon I'll pick this up with the second gen at that won't change gear whilst leaning over in a corner.

I really wish these were available in the US

I sold an older MT-09 manual to get a Honda NC DCT (proper dual clutch auto), and glad to see there may be a Yamaha to switch back to, as after the DCT I can't go back it's just so good.

Very well explained, and your lucky enough to ride around Jersey 👍👍👍

They should have kept the clutch and foot levers as an override

Oh dear , its coming to all bikes. I want my clutch 😂. As you say, once you get use to it then happy days. Great review 👏

You can adjust the automatic mode by adjust with the flipper . And otherwise put on manual where shifting is quicker than quick shifter with a normal mt 09

Get ya self a T Max twist and gone ! That’s what I have for summer . Tooooo much tec and no home diy serviceing on bikes soon 😫

Interesting idea! With an up and down quickshifter on my bike already, I barely use the clutch apart from slow speed, annoying stuff, so having this system would be great for commuting. I'd still like a gear lever tho I think, rather than or maybe as well as the paddles. If these are successful, it'll be interesting to see if the next gen versions are designed with this in mind, rather than as a heavy add on. Not sure it'd be worth the extra money for me tho, plus the resale value is a bit of a worry. Overall, interesting, but not for me.

didnt like the y-amt in 1 and 2 gear in town.a little ruff in the gear changing and was looking for the clutchleaver all the time🤣
i prefer the standard mt09 the qs is so good

Really informative video, thanks for getting into the small details. Getting one next week - as a left leg amputee I've been waiting for a decent naked bike to come along with an auto transmission. I've been riding a CanAm Spyder for the last 12 years and it uses the same manual system but without the fully auto option. The only problem I can see is that finger/thumb switch flicks forward to shift up on the Spyder. The Y-AMT system flicks back to change up. It might take a few wrong shifts to get used to that.

The chain must have been a bit too loose hence the clunky gearbox. Adjust the slack and try it again. I assure you this problem will go away.

Good video.
But a bit harsh calling it scooter mode 🤔

Thanks - a lot of good stuff there! Clunky shifts that unsettle the bike in the middle of a roundabout seems like a driver issue - I would try to learn to manually downshift when
I'm going to slow down? I believe that's something that would become second nature in very short order. And the gearbox being loud and clunky; yep, it's been that way forever. My 2017 MT-09 is very clunky around first and second. Even when the clutch is fully engaged, going into first makes the whole bike wobble a bit.

can you display Google Maps on it screen from you rphone?

@adamolivier3497 1 year ago

How do you do a racing pull from standstill? No couch to rev up the engine and to slide the clutch for a fast pull away

@shermanhan1839 1 year ago

From gears 2 to 6, when will it clutch in + shift vs shift (using quick shifter)?

@MrJkfamilyguy59 1 year ago

LOL Stop calling it scooter mode.. The MT 09 is not even close to a scooter. Just like the Honda NC750x DCT or the Honda NT 1100 DCT or Honda Goldwing. LOL. These bikes are full fledged motorcycles. By saying scooter mode you do these bikes injustice and give them a less than proper full fledged motorcycle. character status. Hondas are much smoother. Yamaha will catch up on their automatic transmission.
