Hello everyone, and happy holidays! I hope you all had a fantastic 2024, and are looking forward to a huge 2025. In this video I'm showing the cons of using 2k clear on your headlights, and how its very difficult to remove. I started by using a razor blade to remove what I could. Whoever applied this 2K clear didn't do a very good job, which made it a little easier for me.

I sanding with a 320 to remove the thin layer of 2k clear, then followed up with 400, followed by 600 before applying the new clear coat.

If the 2k failed.. it’s probably because it was not sanded and prepped properly.. also you it was a thin layer on the headlights anyway.

some advice! when your spraying your clear coat across try returning back the same way so you don't have to make a far trip to start all over

You're spraying 2k or 1k as well. 😅

2KC is permanent damage, that is the permanent part with it.

I'm guessing it peeled because whoever did it got the surface too smooth for the 2K clear to bond to it. That's the thing: 2K clear requires some roughness to adhere, so you are not actually getting a better functioning headlight using 2K clear. I would NEVER use that kind of coating.

Why do you scrape the old clear coat instead of just sanding it?

How long would you say a 2k clear coat product lasts on headlights?

the headlights you restore come out looking like brand new with just 400 grit, 600 grit and then spray the clear coat...i watched others and they do extra steps like 1500 grit, 3000 grit, polish, clean and then spray on the clear do those extra steps make a difference and what are your thoughts on those extra steps...thanks for the videos and info

The issue here is prep and 2k product choice. This dood is just making himself feel good.
2k made for poly surfaces is the key. A std 2k will fail quickly, everytime.
