In this reaction we’re blown away by the pure joy, soulful energy, powerhouse vocals, and fun ad-lib battle between these two icons. From the funky band and backup singers to the real-life connection (Patti as the Godmother of Soul and Mariah’s godmother figure), this 1998 “One Night Only” concert at Hammerstein Ballroom is full of groove, gospel roots, and unforgettable moments. Almost 30 years later it still feels fresh and inspiring.
