"Our Carnival is heavenly fun, with our kids on every corner in Ahrweiler!" – with this motto, Youth Royalty Clara I. and her adjutant Lena now reign over the Ahrweiler children's carnival. At the children's session in the community center last weekend, she received the order from Princess Lena, who thus relinquished her office. Many costumed children came with their parents that day to kick off the carnival season like "the grown-ups." The performances featured mainly junior and junior dance troupes from Ahrweiler and Walporzheim, and the colorful crowd of Ahrweiler's youngest residents danced and celebrated with great enthusiasm, from which the adults could learn a thing or two. The program was hosted by Ben Scherhag and Lukas Foryta from the children's council of eleven, with support from Udo Willerscheid. At the end, there was a freeze dance competition where games could be won. The highlight of the afternoon, however, remained the proclamation of the youth royalty. Clara I., whose real name is Clara Pollig, is a true Ahrweiler girl. She lives in the Oberhut district, is 13 years old, and attends the 8th grade at the Calvarienberg Realschule. In her free time, she dances with the Funken (a local carnival group), does Zumba, and enjoys reading. Her adjutant, Lena Jacobs, is also 13 years old and comes from Bachem. She is also in the 8th grade, but at the Peter-Joerres-Gymnasium (a high school). Like Clara, she does Zumba and dances with the Funken. She is also an altar server and plays the clarinet. The two met through the Funken and serving at the altar.

For the 2017/18 carnival season, the two girls will celebrate Carnival together with the other children and will have plenty to celebrate, especially now until Ash Wednesday. A hearty "Ahrweiler Alaaf!" to them both!
