I'm going to continue our LEGENDARY Hollow Knight playthrough on the gameplay channel THIS FRIDAY, so you can watch it without getting spoiled on Silksong: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CX7E1bJt7jw&list=PLdipSd-orUm1F6hi2u6faqWUxjqQSbKib&index=1

I like the massive Hollow Knight on your wall

33:20 I honestly love that Christopher l
Larkin decided to make this specific track so long, precisely because of how quickly you die at first. NKG in itself is one of the longer fights in the game, and especially on your first time beating him will take at least 5 minutes. But since the music never loops in that time, you feel the progress you've made, and as a result it also feels like the stakes are only getting higher as the fight goes on.

I shed a tear when I woke up today and said “Silksong tomorrow” because this time, it’s true, it’s actually true

The second leitmotif you mentioned is the 'pale theme' that represents the royal family of Hallownest it plays in the white lady's theme hornet(who is the princess) and the "white palace," which is the pale King's theme. The leitmotif also plays briefly in the beginning of the game during the elegy of hallownest cut scene

Also dung defender is in 15/8 Which is like 7/8+4/4

Fun fact about the endings : They are used in game at the end of the fight. What team cherry has done is that they loop the main part and then as the fight ends, they rearange the ending to put a close to the fight, this methode must be a little complicated in the code but the effect is wonderful, almost like the music is being played live as you play it!

The reason I love Pure Vessel so much, aside from what people usually say, is just the sheer contrast of a fast battle with a "calm" music. To this day "The Heir" from Tunic is my favorite boss theme because "calmer" boss themes are less about the fierce combat and glory and more about emotions, the stakes etc. The "fight" is just the facade of a deeper conflict

TWO MORE DAYS. OUR SALVATION IS AT HAND!!

20:36
"I think, B is fine."

Hive Knight starts playing

So it's more like "BEE is fine."

Sorry, I couldn't resist on making this silly joke😅

I cannot express just how much I learn from watching your stuff, Davi. I never caught that detail about how the Broken Vessel's theme is basically a soulless march! Super cool stuff. Keep it up, dude!

The fake choirs in Daughter of Hallownest, Sisters of Battle and ALL of the Godhome tracks is actually an explainable artistic choice as well.

Godhome IS fake, in its core. Its an illusion of grandeur, of perfection that is already gone, or of power that never even existed.

Fake choirs highlight that no less than perfectly.

Technicly the collector has it's own song but it is just a distorted version of decisive battle i think.

White defender is Basically the past version of dung defender, When he was one of the 5 great Knights
Also you are dead ion the money with hornet. the first fight is a test of your strength, in the second shes testing if you are worthy of bearing the "Kings Brand" which is basically the crown

1:40 "it almost feels empty in a way" that's shockingly accurate to False Knight as a character!! Christopher Larkin is diabolically talented to be able to represent such specific feelings and emotions into his music, to the point where folk who havent even played the game can understand the intent from audio *alone*. that's seriously impressive

I feel that Zote's theme was underplayed because it was Zote's theme, despite an attempt to overcome that bias. It's entertaining to listen to, well composed, and fits the egotistical nature of the character excessively well, putting it on par with at least a few of the A tier tracks even if Zote is an F tier boss.

23:09 The zote theme is so good 😫

I kinda feel like Troupe Master Grimm got cheated a little here. You mentioned the metal section sounding a bit stiff, like a classical musician was trying to make metal, and while that may have been the case, that's not actually why the metal section sounded stiff.

You gotta keep in mind that in game, TMG doesn't have one section lead into the other the way it does in the soundtrack. Instead, the metal part is what plays during Grimm's pufferfish attack to make it sound more intense. Which means it has to carry exactly the same melody as the classical part. So Larkin's options were to either make the metal part sound like a metal cover of a classical song, or to make the classical part sound like a classical cover of a metal song.

And since the pufferfish attack only happens three times in the fight, it makes a lot of sense that he chose to write the melody in a way that favors the classical part.

So while I see your point about why it gets A tier, I think if you keep in mind that it has to have the same melody in both sections it might be a bit more deserving of S tier, considering how well it pulls that off.

Perfect list, but there should be an S+ tier for the Grimm themes.

I'm not biased, I'm correct

Hollow Knight nerds have been called out

48:40 You can't remember that fight because you haven't done it. Otherwise you would remember
