"It's not nepotism because his dad would never think about him that much"
I'm in stitches

its kinda funny that the series went from a dad who was around but seemed extremely distant, to a series where the dad couldn't be more distant but was still very close to his son.

i literally watched the entire bionicle video, rewatched the mega man video immediately after, and youtube still decided to wait nearly 5 months before showing this video to me

The real battle network is the souls of children we digitized along the way.

Lan being continuesly dad-cucked in this entire series is something I needed a 9 hour rant to notice

Star Force 1 will always hold a special place in my heart
as a young teenager playing it for the first time while going through a rough patch in an already pretty rocky childhood, a kid who also didn't have a dad around, and struggling with depression, that shit hit way harder than it had any right to

I like the implication that the main world-shifting difference between the classic universe and the Battle Network universe is that Dr. Light got laid.

Battle Network has the most bizarre juxtaposition of childish worldbuilding logic and weirdly dark stakes. People are constantly trying to murder Lan and other children.
But it still feels like it was written by an 11 year old. I've never seen another game quite like that.

I have to point out that you failed to mention that Speedy Dave is basically just the Unabomber

Hikari: I want to make AI
Wiley: I want to make robots
Society: Well, I only have the one $10, so make us proud Hikari.

Fact: Tadashi Hikari is a pun. As a play on the "Dr. Right" versus "Dr. Light" mistranslations that plagued the first few entries of the classic series in the 80's, Tadashi is Japanese for "right" (as in correct) and Hikari is Japanese for "light". The kanji characters used to spell his name aren't those words literally, but it's common for games with this kind of tone to have Japanese names that are intentionally written so that they can have the same pronunciation as a punny alternative, such as the Ace Attorney franchise.

Another fun fact: WWW is also a way of expressing laughter in written form in Japan. So World 3 is also LOL

I feel so bad for that old man who loved tops and not Net battling. Before Net Battling their entire society was probably run on and by tops and they used tops to communicate and battle each other, but much like Net battling when Star Force came around, the old ways were forgotten, so sad.

1:30:19 the wiki is completely misunderstanding what happened.
The whole poison gas problem happened while yai was in the bath. So, after you rescue her, she gets all accusatory and is all like "eek! You saw me naked!"
Then Mayl explains to her that, while it was lab who got rid of airman and turned off the poison gas, it was Mayl who carried yai to her bedroom.
In response to this, yai jokingly retorts to lan that because he had Mayl deal with transporting the naked yai from the bath to the bed, he missed out on seeing yai naked.

See you in over a year when I play through the entire Star Force series in the Legacy Collection.

Im glad to see that the Doctor Cain in the battle network timeline is also filled with brilliant ideas like
"Let's create a cyber monstrosity for world peace"
What would we do without this man?

6:43:00, its actually a bit different.

Basically yes, they sign a petition, but also they shift the blame to the incident from Shepar to the Principal. The kids go "Oh, Shepar didnt use the Study Wave cause he read up that it had bad effects on your brain, and the first time he uses it, he turns into a Scale Monster. Who forced him to try the Study Wave and go mad? The Principal. Parents, Staple his balls together. "

And the Principal does indeed get fired. In SF2, he hangs out at the local hotel and he works as a Country Singer.

I laughed my ass off when he said "digibro"

I replayed these games as an adult in preparation for this video, and hearing you describe Battle Network 2 as filled with 'interminable fetch-quests' filled me with a catharsis of understanding knowing someone else is aware of how exhausting that game is.

“His dad is cheating on him with his other children” is certainly hilarious
