In today’s video, which is sponsored by TP-Link, I take a look at the TP-Link Deco BE67 and BE68 WiFi 7 mesh systems and see if upgrading to a premium tri-band WiFi 7 setup is actually worth it. After replacing my existing Hyperoptic router setup with the Deco mesh network, I test the real world performance around my house, studio, garden and garden office to see just how much faster and more reliable the connection becomes.

I cover the setup process, wired and wireless backhaul, MLO, 6GHz WiFi performance, VPN support, IoT network features and some of the more advanced networking options built into the Deco app. I also explain the differences between the US TP-Link Deco BE67 and the UK TP-Link Deco BE68 of the TP-Link Deco 7 Pro models.

After living with the system for two months, I also share some of the issues I encountered, including WiFi stuttering and reliability problems, along with the response I received from TP-Link when I raised the issues with them.

Great review! I 2 BE67’s in my 1500 sq ft condo. I have updated them to the new beta firmware 1.3.0 and they are working great. No stutters.

Just wondering if you tried using the devices in AP mode rather than router, with hard set channels and wired only backhaul (No MLO).
I suspect the stutter issues will go away when using the system in this way ?

Thank you Kip for a great recview. I recently bought the BE14000 unit (3 BE67). Two of the 3 units did not work properly. They kept losing connection. I don't need 10Gb and I decided that the BE14000 was overkill for my 1635 Sq.Ft. condo so I am returning it to Amazon and ordering the BE10000 (3 BE63) instead. It also has an extra LAN port so that's helpful.

Great review, I enjoyed watching! I just got one of these and must say I really like it. I saw it had a firmware update and everything is working flawlessly. I really think with the 10GB port, this will allow as we get faster isp connections into the home/small office in the future.

As a Wi-Fi consultant specialising in residential and small business set ups, I found your video very interesting and well put together. While it would be great if Wi-Fi was simple and just 'plug n play', the reality is that it's quite complex and there's a lot going on under the bonnet. Have you thought about investing in some tools to check out the spectrum in your house? I kept thinking "what's the RSSI and SNR?" when you mentioned the stuttering. Also, what was the channel utilisation at the time of the stuttering? With regards to MLO, it's so new I haven't got the confidence that the device vendors have got the software fully sorted yet. Did you experience stuttering on the 5GHz band with no MLO?

I’ve just upgraded to the Deco BE68 from our previous Deco M9 Plus. Until now, everything was routed through the EE Smart Hub 6. I removed the EE hub entirely and connected the BE68 directly to the fibre ONT.

For context, both the M9 and the BE68 showed occasional stutter or delay across devices. We’re an Android/PC/Mac household, and the issue wasn’t tied to any particular platform.

Setting up the BE68 in PPPoE mode was straightforward — it genuinely took longer to unbox the mesh units than to configure them. The setup process was almost fully automatic.

Since switching to the BE68 as the primary router, the stuttering has disappeared completely, aside from a few obscure websites that seem slow regardless. We don’t use a VPN, and DNS lookups average around 23 ms, which is slightly on the slower side, but expected given EE’s performance in the Highlands.

Major sites like Microsoft, Apple, Dell, and Samsung load instantly, and Wi‑Fi coverage is now strong throughout the house and even outside.

Very helpful video. I appreciate the honesty. I just bought the system even after watching your vid. With the current sale price, plus another $50 off, it seemed worth the risk. If it had been $500+ I probably wouldn't have purchased. I really, really hope I don't regret the purchase!
