A strong scene in a terrific show.  More than that, it approaches sex in a way you don't often see on TV anymore.  For most TV characters now, sex is no big deal and usually easy to get.  For Maddie, not having intimacy with a man for such a long time leads to self-doubt.  For David, who is always joking about how he and Maddie should get together, hearing such a frank admission from Maddie is unsettling, and he switches from simply wanting to sleep with her to wanting to make sure she does not do something stupid and get hurt.  While it is clearly an awkward scene, these 2 actors delivered their lines perfectly.
