US-Russia Agreement: "Donald Trump is desperate"
Professor of International Relations José Francisco Pavia and Ambassador Mário Godinho de Matos analyzed on NOW the recent announcement of an agreement between the United States and Russia for the supply of fuels and its repercussions on the war in Ukraine. The ambassador highlighted the financial impact on Moscow and the urgency for Donald Trump to stabilize diesel prices in the face of the approaching US elections. In turn, José Francisco Pavia described the initiative as surprising and "an act of desperation," warning that the measure dismantles the package of sanctions on Russian hydrocarbons and sends a signal of disinterest in complying with these restrictions. The analysts also discussed ongoing diplomatic contacts, the pressure on Kiev regarding attacks on Russian refineries, and the potential impacts on intelligence sharing and satellite network support for Ukraine.
