Today we've got a beautiful motorcycle in the shop. A 2025 Yamaha MT-09 SP. Now, if you own one of these bikes, you've probably tried to figure out what's going on with 2nd gear. Second gear on the mt09 is a little bit of a... dog. It almost seems as though you're losing power when you're in 2nd gear which can really take the fun out of riding. In this video, we'll show you the previous map so you understand where the bike is cutting power by restricting your throttle. Thankfully, Proven Power Cycles exists where we can look into your motorcycles map and make adjustments to ensure your motorcycle rides like it was designed to do! If you have an Mt-09 low on power in second gear, it may be time for a tune!

But then I took it in for the recall ECM reflash, and it was never right again. It was dead in 2nd gear.
Based on my research, I believe that Yamaha didn’t load the USA ECM software on my bike… in other countries the engine noise is measured in 2nd gear, and the throttle gets limited there to keep the dBs low enough. I think Yamaha might have tried to limit their expense on the recalls by not rewriting the USA software and just necking down the versions to save money.
I wish someone could do for my bike what you’ve done in the video!
