Minister Yanagi retracted his statement and apologized, and indicated his intention to continue his duties as Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

In May of this year, Minister Yanagi stated at a local rally that he had "significantly cut" the road budgets of Nasukarasuyama City and Nakagawa Town, which did not support him in the recent House of Representatives election.
