With regard to the standoffish choirs, I've always found that the more secure a person is in themselves, the more they're willing to reach out a hand to other people in a similar field. When I started self publishing books a distinguished academic friend who keeps being asked to judge literary prizes was really encouraging, whereas a friend with an unfinished trilogy got so weird about it I had to sit down and ask what was going on.

Old dead wood is getting more and more rare in the forrests of today, since more and more forrest becomes tree plantations- monocultures to farm timber!  So that old oak will probably be to more use for all the little creatures now when dead than while being alive!  From  death and decay emerges life! And so turns the wheel and the circle rolls around once more!

Today's positive bit is what many tumblr veterans know as Two Cakes: if you took a cake to a pot luck and found that there was already one on the dessert table, you wouldn't just throw yours away (one hopes), and people getting desserts will mostly be excited because holy crap, there's two cakes! So write the fic you want to write even if someone else has done it already. Readers who like the premise will be excited that there's more of the thing they like! Or, as the case may be, the listeners will be excited to hear Sweet Caroline twice.

I'm blessed to be a resident of California which is home to some remarkable trees:  redwood which can reach 1200-220 years old, sequoia 3400, years old, bristlecone pine 4000 years old and the great grand one the Jurapa Oak which is estimated to be 13,000 years old.  To stand in a grove of sequoias brings the world into proper perspective and give thanks to Gaia for her bounty.

Part of what's wrong with society is not enough people see trees as sacred anymore.

I cried when the news broke of the Great Oak died 😢💔 but It will continue to live for nature animals will make it a home ❤

Oh, that picture of the oak, all thick-limbed, twisted and gnarled, looks so much like my ancient apricot tree in my back garden.  It hadn't flowered in a couple of years until my 12 year old cat died and got buried near it's base.  Then it thrived.  And the burdock spread halfway down the lawn to the rhubarb.
There's an even larger stump in my front garden, hollow, with a hole near the bottom where creatures enter to shelter.  I suspect the rattlesnakes hide out there during the brutally hot summer.
It's sad when trees die, but nature carries on.

Opening my heart and checking my ego -a lifelong journey.   This may sound off topic but bear with me… I’d just like to thank the members of the Tartan Army who came to southern New England for their first appearance in the World Cup in 28 years. They brought light, joy, camaraderie and color to  many of us who were wallowing in the grey. Many thanks , you left us better than you found us. It was refreshing to see supporters who were there for the greater good with no expectations. Thank you for your donations to many children’s charities and for all the well decorated statues (they needed those cones).  You brought the magic and it will linger and propagate moving forward. Like the Major Oak, seeds planted flourish. Thanks for the sowing.

I work in Cypress Hills Provincial Park in Saskatchewan, Canada. It’s an island of forested oasis surrounded by the grasslands of The Great Plains.  
Our forest is in active decline. It’s not dead, thankfully. But humans thinking they know better has made it weak, sick, and dangerous.

Lodgepole pine forests need fire; it’s the beginning and end of their natural life cycle. Fires have been actively suppressed there for nearly a century.

We now have a huge new undertaking to restore the forest’s health and future without putting people at risk. The work has begun, and it will take decades, but I hope that we can get to the point where it is safe to burn the forest once again, and watch it spring back to life with a sigh of relief.

We spent a lovely couple of hours kayaking today and saw soft shell turtles in the wild for the first time

Solstice greetings. Wishing everyone here much love and inspiration.

Its Winter Solstice here today...small ritual is me making a pot of special smoky black tea gifted from a dear friend in China. The tea comes wrapped in paper in a pretty box and is dried and shaped like a cup. I use my boline to shave off some leaves. The tea is beautiful with honey. Takes about 15 mins to make it and we spend a lovely longer time enjoying it. Wishing Everyone a lovely summer/winter solstice time. 🌟🌟🌟🦘🐨🩷🩷
